"We had a pleasant stay overall. The place was tidy and clean on arrival, with a great shower and well-equipped cooking facilities. The space has a cosy, retro feel, though it is a little dated in places. There were a few quirks worth noting. The stove was a bit experimental to use as the dial markings have worn off, which made cooking slightly tricky. The TV remote is still broken (as mentioned in a review from over a year ago), and unfortunately the WiFi ran out during our stay. For families, it may not be the best fit for teenagers as there isn’t much space to kick a ball around, and it’s not particularly walkable to the beach—though it’s only about a 5-minute drive to the bay. The views are of the estuary rather than the harbour, which is worth clarifying in the listing. It would also be helpful for future guests to know that this is the downstairs flat with the owner living upstairs, as this wasn’t clear in the listing. The driveway is a bit tight and can be a little tedious to navigate. That said, it’s a comfortable spot for a short stay if you’re after somewhere quiet and don’t mind a few minor inconveniences."
"The room was spotless, the staff were super helpful and kind, told us places to go, let us use their kayaks, we had the best time, everything was perfect."
"A wonderful place to stay and a great host. We just loved our time staying in Shirley's cottage and really appreciated Shirley's thoughtfulness and attention to anticipating the needs of travellers who come to stay. Shirley was a great host and helped us with ideas for things to do in the Coromandel region. The setting is wonderful - quiet and peaceful - and yet it's just a few minutes from the centre of Coromandel town. "
"Room was clean and comfortable. Location was excellent, just a short walk to Coromandel Town centre. Staff were helpful; didn't actally meet anyone due to late check-in but they enabled me to gain entry via messaging."
"My three adult children and I just loved this bach with it’s beautiful views and comfortable beds. It rained the whole 2 days we were there so we stayed close, lit the fire and cooked in the well equipped kitchen. The porch is covered so we were able to spend time outside even in the rain. Beautiful small beach right in front where we fished and harvested oysters. A very cozy and bright house we would definitely stay again. "
"Everything about this hotel is a gold star, despite the bathrooms being slightly outdated and the road to get there semi isolated for food options. This is a great place for a night or even a week! The staff were friendly, and so were the ducks and eels! We were fortunate to see the lunar eclipse right from their hand built trail, and only wish we could have stayed longer. "
