We had an amazing stay at Makanda by the Sea. The property is absolutely beautiful, but what really made the trip special was the staff. They helped coordinate everything before we arrived, including our private airport transfers, excursions, dinner reservations, and even made sure my gluten-free meals were taken care of throughout our stay. They were always available to give us rides around the property, which made everything so easy. Our room with the private pool was incredible and quickly became one of our favorite parts of the trip. The privacy, ocean views, and attention to detail made it the perfect place to celebrate a special occasion. We couldn’t have asked for a more relaxing and memorable experience and would absolutely stay here again.

Rarely (never!) am I ever left without words, but our 4 days at Makanda left me truly speechless. Every single aspect out our stay was impeccable. The service. The grounds. The staff. Every single tile on the golf cart path is perfect. There is no detail of this resort that hasn’t been thought through and perfectly executed. And then there are the monkeys and the sloth and the toucans and macaws and parrots. The sounds of the rainforest… vibrating and ALIVE… I felt like I was inside a National Geographic documentary. Something about being here made me feel so humble and small and privileged to experience such an incredible corner of the world. To all of the staff who took such great care of us, we thank you for the best few days of our lives.

Fantastic service with Candy at check in and throughout. Leo was absolutely instrumental in guiding our overall experience, gave fantastic food recommendations, was incredibly prompt at attending to every single need. The staff is overall 10/10. We stayed at the honeymoon grand villa and the accommodations were 10/10 in all respects.

Location was great, the main pool is really nice and also well laid out. The beach is beautiful, albeit a shame it's not exclusive for the hotel and only accessible during low tide. Elias on the bar was fantastic. Such a hard worker.

The grounds are beautiful and the staff is really exceptional. However for the price, the hotel is lacking in some amenities that would make it a 5-star stay. Also, everything was about twice the price of what they reasonably should be charging. For example, the burger was USD$45, which as a New Yorker and frequent traveler, is one of the most expensive burgers I’ve ever seen!

We liked the proximity to the National Park. Food and drinks are overpriced at this property. For the level of hotel should at least offer water in the rooms. Other than that its a nice Hotel, I would recommend it for people coming to Manuel Antonio Park.

Property was very nice although the walking up and down the hills within the property was difficult and felt dangerous especially on the rolling surface installed. Service was great although there was a tendency to gouge for trivial services (ie salt and lime on a beer glass was an upcharge, Evian bottles of water $9 each). Bartending, waiters and golf cart drivers were definitely the saving grace. Our room A/C system was marginal.
