Really loved staying at this hotel. We were given a room in a bungalow on the grounds which was very private and quite looking onto a garden, I really loved the fact that it had its own private kitchen and the staff were very helpful in providing things that ran out. Would definately stay there again.

Lots of negatives: bathroom is musky smelly, doors need replacing, windows don’t shut properly, no air conditioning(!) Positives: 15 minute walk to tourist district, free parking, good water pressure, friendly staff. I would not recommend to stay here. I was sold by the well-staged pictures. Don’t be fooled.

First to agree it looks very very very tired... But smiling staff, very helpful and quick check in and a room upgrade. The bed was clean and comfortable, slept really well. For £45 for a monday night, with free parking, in central Reading, absolute bargain.

The building itself is awesome—an older property with a lot of character, including a really cool dining room. It’s in a nice, quiet neighborhood, and we had no noise issues at all. The staff was also fantastic and genuinely couldn’t have been better. The biggest surprise was breakfast. It was made to order and was a traditional English breakfast with tons of flavor. We found a lot of the food during our European trip fairly mild, so this really stood out. Honestly, it may have been the best breakfast—or even the best food—we had during the entire trip. Unfortunately, our room was the complete opposite experience. The bed was old and pushed against the wall, the linens and towels were worn and smelled unpleasant, and the carpet was heavily stained. It also had an almost sticky, damp feeling to it, to the point that we weren’t comfortable taking our shoes off. The room itself had a strong odor that reminded us of cat urine. The shower was also very old and dingy. We stayed during a night when Reading was extremely busy, and accommodations were difficult to find, so I don’t know if our room was representative of the rest of the hotel. I can only review the room we were given. I really hate rating this hotel poorly because the staff was excellent, the building had so much character, and the breakfast was outstanding. But ultimately, the condition of the room matters too much to overlook. Based on our experience, we would not stay here again.
