Follow in the footsteps of the Victorians in this historic resort by the sea. Ride the miniature railway around a scenic lake.

Rhyl is a pleasant coastal town and weekend resort, especially popular with English and Welsh families. The resort was initially created as a getaway for wealthy Victorians. Today it features sandy beaches, historic buildings and an array of family activities. Browse the many shops and restaurants overlooking the water.

Take the whole family to the Children’s Village amusement park for its rides and fun activities. Head to the Marine Lake in the southwestern part of town and watch the ducks. Bring the kids to the Rhyl Miniature Railway that runs around the lake. Inspect the interactive exhibits in the local museum.

Among the town’s cultural highlights is the Rhyl Pavilion Theatre on the seafront. Choose from a range of shows, including stand-up comedy, dance performances and concerts, that are staged at this venue. Attend a production at Rhyl Little Theatre, a stage for children to act and perform routines.

Enjoy the warm days in summer with trips to Rhyl Beach, a wide stretch of sand that is the nucleus of the town. Arrive early at Rhyl East Beach to go jogging and watch the sunrise. People-watch from the café and beachcomb for marine treasures. The water is cold year-round and winter brings freezing weather and occasional snow.

Stay in the town as a base for exploring the rolling, green hills of the North Wales countryside. Just south of the town is the village of BodelwyddanOpens in a new window, where you will find the Bodelwyddan CastleOpens in a new window. Wander through the landscape gardens and bring your children to the butterfly house. Admire the works of art on loan from the National Portrait Gallery that line the walls of this manor house.

Find the town overlooking the Irish Sea on the northern coast of Wales. It is just 50 miles (80 kilometres) west of LiverpoolOpens in a new window in England and near Snowdonia National ParkOpens in a new window. Fly to the Liverpool John Lennon Airport and take a train to Rhyl Railway Station.

Enjoy Rhyl’s sandy beaches, quaint retreats and majestic country estates.

The room was clean and had a good fan and a decent coffee maker. Also had a fridge with complimentary fresh milk, water and cookies which was lovely. Superking bed and best nights sleep in a while. Black out curtains were amazing. Breakfast was fab. Best buffet breakfast we have had in a while.

Room and corridors were a bit dated. The corridors I’m assuming were meant to be like that but expected more from the rooms, considering meant to be 5*. The palm court was great but expensive but to be expected and staff were helpful and friendly.
