La Rochelle and Saintes have classical music festivals and the village of Cognac offers distilleries and boat trips on the Charente. Play golf at la Rochelle, Saintes and Cognac, or visit the large Aqualand in St Jean dAngely. You can spend a day on the beach at Fouras and there is a ferry to the island of Aix, Napoleon's last residence. La Rochelle is famous for its old harbour, its aquarium and its many cafés and fish restaurants by the water.
