Family vacation
Great house and location. We enjoyed the views and the pool was perfect. Loved the walk to the beach. The area was great and perfect for just relaxing. The people in the area were very friendly too. If you want to go to the Outer Banks and don’t want all the busyness, this area is perfect.

Great location, dirty and outdated, bug-infested home with lacking basic rental home amenities
Salvo itself is stunning, but the Lazy Whale’s poor upkeep, broken amenities, and lackluster service turned our long-anticipated getaway into a series of frustrations and extra expenses. We cannot recommend this rental for families seeking a worry-free, clean, or relaxing beach vacation.Pulling up, the cottage’s coastal feel and dune backdrop looked exactly like the photos. But inside, reality quickly unraveled. So unkept. Surfaces were sticky, floors were dirty, and cupboards grimy. I spent our first two hours driving to Dollar General for cleaning supplies and scrubbing rather than relaxing. Just what you want to do on vacation, right?We’d prepaid 600 to heat the pool, to find it bone-chilling cold. The manager assured us it was warming up, but even days later, it remained frigid. Meanwhile, the kitchen’s filthiness and missing basics and others poorly kept, forced us to rely on paper plates and costly takeout, blowing our meal budget.The game room contributed to fizzling our fun; a dartboard without darts & a foosball table without balls. After requesting, some foosballs dropped, but no darts. Then it got nasty. Just 36 hours in, we discovered a bug infestation; pest control confirmed months of cleaning neglect in the kitchen cupboards. We spent vacation time cleaning up bugs each day. On day five, we learned from the pool provider that the pool heater had never been activated and the jet filters failed from irregular maintenance. No refunds or remedies. Don't book.
