First, perhaps the highest compliment is that I hope to return to the property. Our children loved it and after a long day
Second, to explain the title, this property is what it is. It is not a luxury condo, this is not a beach house, it is a quaint and idyllic cottage-like home in the middle of downtown San Diego. Something you might read about in a children's novel about how a country home got surrounded by the big city. Somewhat surreal, but that's what it is.
We visited with me, my wife, and four children 5-11 years old. It was perfect for us. It is not a place I would recommend for spending all day at. We were there for sleeping, breakfast, and an evening movie before bed. PERFECT, PERFECT, PERFECT. Beds were great, rooms were comfortable, TVs and internet connection ran without a hitch. We spent the days going to sea world, san diego zoo, USS Midway, etc... This location is extremely close to all of that. We went to Legoland on the the day we checked out. That was about 30 mins away. My wife had to fly out midway through the trip, this place is 10 minutes from the airport.
We spent evenings in little Italy having great ice cream (Salt & Straw) and italian food. Mid-days were close to great mexican food. This is about 4 min drive from little italy.
The home is inside something of a historical home campus. 4 homes with a historical designation is my thought. surrounded by a wrought-iron fence. No parking inside the fence but it really wasn't a problem.
Highly recommend for foodies, families, anyone who doesn't like sterile environments of hotels and prefers the sense of being "home" but still in the big city.
What I would do to improve:
There is no laundry onsite - with kids I usually plan use a laundry on trips. However, I found a laundromat up the street that was very clean, quick, and I was in and out of there with a huge load done in just under an hour.
No parking onsite, when you get there you see why, there really is plenty of free parking though in the immediate vicinity (no charge parking at night, make sure you see the signs for when streets get visited by the street sweeper).
A little larger bathroom would be nice, no bath tub, but two showers in two clean bathrooms to handle our group of six.
