"Here’s a balanced review that keeps your honesty while still being fair and thoughtful: The Upham Hotel has so much charm and potential, and there were definitely aspects of our stay that we truly enjoyed. The grounds are beautiful, peaceful, and full of character. The location is excellent, and the staff throughout our stay were warm, welcoming, and accommodating. I also loved the boutique feel of the property — enjoying a complimentary glass of wine during happy hour in the evening and coffee and pastries in the morning was such a nice touch. There are multiple cozy spots around the property to sit under the trees, relax, and enjoy the atmosphere. That said, while I understand this is a historic property and older buildings naturally come with less modern convenience, the guest rooms themselves felt overdue for upgrades and deeper attention to cleanliness. Our room had a noticeable mildew smell, the carpet felt old, and some of the furnishings appeared very worn. Unfortunately, the recliner chair in the room had visible hair and debris on it, which immediately gave the room an overall unclean feeling. The mattress also left a lot to be desired in terms of comfort. For the price point of this hotel, I do think investing back into the rooms themselves would make a huge difference and better align the accommodations with the beautiful grounds and overall experience the property is trying to create. The charm and location are absolutely there — but please refresh the rooms."

"The hotel was well kept and conveniently located. The room was very clean and furnished well. The bed and pillows were surprisingly comfortable. I did not have a chance to use it, but there was a great deep bathtub. The only issues were that the wifi went out late one night preventing us from using the keypad to open our door. We had to contact the remote staff, but they gave us the code to unlock the physical key pretty quickly. My only complaint is there was no maid service for the duration of my 6 night stay. I was not aware of this prior to booking. Apparently the hotel emailed me mid stay to offer me a mid week refresh, but since i didn't see my email, I missed that opportunity. That was disappointing and I don't understand why they didn't text me since all of our communication up to that point had been via text."

Ramada by Wyndham Santa Barbara

"I wasn't too impressed with my stay at the Ramada in Santa Barbara. Upon checking in there were two employees at the desk. One who was helping me and the other one (male) who was on the telephone with a potential guest i'm assuming. He was incredibly snarking and rude to the person on the phone. His colleague (female) agreed with his disrespectful attitude and acknowledged it by smiling at him and giving him a half eye roll. That was a terrible first impression from the hotel staff, it was really unnecessary to be rude to the guest when being asked about pricing of the hotel stay. Not sure if the hotel was within the guest budget range but the male employee made me feel uncomfortable with the way he was speaking with the guest over the phone. It felt very judgmental and almost (mean girl) like. As for the room my daughter and I killed two decent size bugs and I think the final straw for us was when we were in the bathroom and the rubber mat on the bathtub looked like it had dark stains or mold on the edges. Thankfully we were only there one night."
