A perfect getaway

We usually explore a city every year for our anniversary. This year, on our 12th year anniversary, we decided that we wanted to go somewhere where we could be alone and surrounded by nature. This was the absolute perfect getaway for us and we plan to come back with the kids!

Came to unplug and it was wonderful. Hiked nearby and being able to return to the cabin and cook dinner each night was a pleasure. Being dog friendly brought us to stay here and we enjoyed having her with us.

We always have a great time when we come to Southern Illinois. The cabin was all it said it would be. Comfy and clean with just a bit of seclusion. Weather was perfect for sitting by the fire in the evening. If available, we would stay here again!

Everything in and around the cabin was as it was listed and pictured on the website. The gentleman I spoke with on the phone a few days prior to check in and the lady that checked us in were courteous, friendly, and kind. My daughter and I had a great time. We both hope to return for another stay!

Great little cabin!

We very much enjoyed the Sassafras’s cabin! Clean, well appointed with dishes, pans etc. they even provided coffee. Centrally located in the Shawnee Natl Forest, we were only 8 minutes away from great hiking, The Garden of the Gods and more. While there are other cabins nearby there was plenty of privacy. Very quiet place to enjoy a fire pit and decompress. We will absolutely be back for another stay.

Sassafras was a very nice cabin. Easily slept 4. Cooked a basic full meal with relative ease in kitchen. The management staff were extremely helpful and accommodating during booking.

Great Cabin Location and Amenities but Bed Bugs

We loved our stay at this location. The cabin was stocked with everything you needed for your stay. At first the cabin appeared to be clean but I do believe we were bit by bed bugs and I would hope this is resolved. Everything was perfect until we woke up with bed bug bites all over our body. I did not see them but it was darker upstairs with one dim light.

Oh my goodness! This cabin was so darling and cozy but really what took it over for me was it was spotless and I mean absolutely spotless! But it was also darling and the staff were sweet and their outpost storeis super high-quality stuff. Nothing junkie and they serve food and it’s all really cute and nice. We look forward to coming down and trying out different cabins. Just one tiny input on the entrance sign I’d put that the outpost is way down the road with its address because I had a terrible time for all that out. Thank you so much.
