Located on Chatham Square and one block from Forsyth Park, guest are able to walk to many historic sites, tons of shopping and dining options. This street is known for the city’s best reserved 1850s row houses.
HISTORIC GORDON ROW: Gordon Row was built in two phases between 1852 and 1854. In the first phase, the 3 or 4 houses on each end of the block were built and in the second phase the middle portion was built. There are a total of 15 houses in the row. The houses were built in the Federalist (US) or Regency Style (UK). Each house is four stories high and contains about 3,300 square feet. The Federalist Style emphasizes square, classical features, plain decorations and mirror image rooms.
During the horse-and-buggy days, Savannah’s carriage houses were the sleeping quarters for the property owners' carriage drivers. The drivers were responsible for the care of the horses, tack and the carriages. Many drivers slept in the hay loft of the Carriage houses with the horses on the ground level.
This is the original 1854 brick carriage house. The interior is bright and sunny with the original brick walls exposed. This home is only a block from Forsyth Park and 15 minute walk to River Street.
The carriage house is accessed from the LANE/alley that runs parallel to Gordon Street. There is a locked iron gate that enters into the courtyard and the free-standing carriage house has a private entrance.
The home is 2-stories with a small but fully equipped kitchen & living room on the ground floor. Up the stairs is the loft-bedroom with queen bed (brand new mattress!), smart TV and ensuite bathroom with a walk-in shower. The loft has a spacious closet, a stackable washer/dryer and an iron/ ironing board.
The walled courtyard between the carriage house and the main 4-story row house is shared with other guests in the building (private to outsiders) and there is a bistro table at your front door just for you to have an evening cocktail or an alfresco dinner.
