The Kemble- Built by a US Secretary of State in Lenox
10/10 Excellent
"We stayed at The Kemble, the historic Lenox estate built by a U.S. Secretary of State, for a large family reunion with 10 adults and 16 children—and it was, without question, the best large-house experience we’ve ever had.We rent a large home every year, and nothing has come close to this. The house is both grand and incredibly livable. The kitchen is outstanding, equipped with commercial- and industrial-grade appliances that made cooking for a crowd not just possible, but enjoyable. In the evenings, the bar became the gathering place for the adults, creating memories we’ll talk about for years.Despite its historic character, the home is immaculate, beautifully maintained, and exceptionally comfortable. Its proximity to downtown Lenox is a huge plus—you feel tucked away on a private estate while still being minutes from town. The Kemble is rare: historic without feeling fragile, spacious without feeling impersonal, and elegant while still being fun. We couldn’t recommend it more highly and would return in a heartbeat."
"Gateways Inn is a fantastic place to stay! The staff was very courteous and the room was spacious and very clean. The breakfast was included and very tasty. I highly suggest a stay there if you are planning on visiting the Berkshires!!!"
"We had a wonderful stay. Thank you, Lexi, who greeted us and was able to change our room when we requested a king size bed. Everything was excellent!"
"Every point of contact I had at 33 Main was friendly, efficient, and accommodating. It’s evident Donna and her team run the inn with love. It’s clean and gorgeously furnished on the inside. You’ll recognize it from the outside, because it’s the most charmingly decorated on the block.
I stayed in the Cliffwood room, which was the perfect size for me as a solo traveler (in other words, although smaller than the other rooms, it did not feel too small). The room and private bathroom were clean and beautifully designed. I loved the towels and heated towel rack—divine!
Breakfast was delicious every morning and catered to dietary preferences—no meat for me. They start you off with a sideboard buffet offering yogurt, fruit, granola, and pastries that change daily, followed by a featured entree.
33 Main has a dedicated parking lot in the back for easy and convenient off-street parking. The location of the inn is supreme—just across the street and a skip away from all the shops and restaurants."
