"We had a wonderful week, based at Jessamine cottage, with helpful communication from the owner.Everything that we needed was provided, as well as a very generous welcome hamper. The cottage is very comfortable and clean, and in a good quiet location.We used the walking leaflets and books for inspiration. "Our stay was disappointing from the moment we arrived. Check‑in was uninformative, and we were handed a piece of paper that turned out to contain outdated instructions about car registration. After rushing back downstairs, we were told it didn’t apply — so it really shouldn’t be given to guests at all. The restaurant experience wasn’t any better. Service was poor, the staff complained about making cocktails, and they were spilled twice. The food was average, the wine list wasn’t available, and they had even run out of beer. The pool area was under maintenance and clearly in need of repair, which wasn’t communicated beforehand. When we lost our room key in the lockers, the response from the front desk was rude and dismissive, with the staff member more focused on her phone than helping. Overall, the hotel itself was average, but the staff and service were well below expectations. We would not return."
