Check in was easy with a key left on the table. What we noticed most about this unique family farm was the privacy and quiet; you couldn’t hear any highway noise. Fortunately, the heat wave subsided, and we found the back porch the best place to be. We enjoyed seeing the Black Angus cattle in the distance. Even though the river wasn’t visible in the summer from the porch (except gravel bar on other side), the green fields and wild flowers were beautiful. The four chairs in the VRBO photos on the front porch were not there for our stay which is the sunset side. Still, we saw the most beautiful sunset walking our dog.
The Meramec River was a pleasant surprise for both tubing and swimming. We brought our own tubes and were going to drive to the conservation area, but fortunately, we were able to access the river on this property at the put in site, a convenient 5 minute drive on a rock road. For our tube take out, there was a steep bluff / hill on the VRBO property; however we found a take out spot by crawling under a fallen tree where a river access used to be. We felt adventuresome. It’s really a great river spot and swimming hole. We didn’t want to go anywhere else.
The cabin is decorated with a ranch theme, and is both clean and de-cluttered, making for a relaxing environment; however, we thought the guests’ personal space could be improved with a few inexpensive solutions. Since the bedrooms do not have a closet or dresser, perhaps a foldable luggage rack would be a solution. A simple hook or shelf in the bathroom would be appreciated for organizing personal items.
We never met the VRBO host, but a man came down within an hour of our call for a minor issue with the hot tub, and two kitchen and bathroom soap containers that weren’t filled. He got the hot tub working in a flash. The man said the cleaning person probably forgot to fill the bottles. We finally found a partially filled bottle in the closet.
We felt like the nightly fees were reasonable; however, pet fees, additional service / cleaning fees and taxes increased the nightly stay by 53%.
