Good morning Kathryn. Great Keppel Island is an amazing place. It is so lovely for visitors to be able to stay right on the beachfront. We have a variety of accommodation from very basic motel style to our beachfront cabins, new studio rooms and our 2 houses. Diversity of activities is what really stands Great Keppel Island apart from other islands. I will pass on your comments re more food options for guests to our Food & Beverage manager. In time there will be more low key, boutique and eco development on the island and this will no doubt include a small grocery store. Thanks again Kathryn. Hi Monica. Lovely to hear from you and thank you for sharing your holiday story. I can see that you stayed in one of our basic motel style Palm rooms. You will be very happy to know that they are all getting a makeover including a fully tiled new bathroom area. Resheeting the walls plus a lovely timber bench with extra cupboard/shelving space too. New inside table/chairs and putting the current round table/chairs on the little deck. Watch this space. So pleased that we should have all of these finished by late November. The Barramundi dinner meal has received great praise, so I am disappointed that yours wasn't cooked properly. Always feel free to discuss with the bistro team/supervisor and they can look after these matters for you on the spot. Snorkelling tours are great fun with lots of reef, fish and turtles to see. Hi Tina. We are very pleased that you had a great time. Yes we have built new bathrooms in the island cabins which are very lovely. Our next renovation for the cabins will be the outside decks with improved flooring and some privacy screening for the cabins on the main path. Hi Alfreda. I am very disappointed that you didn't enjoy your holiday. We always invite guests to talk to us if they have any problems with their rooms. It is the borewater in the shower drains that creates the stale smell. Not the sewerage system. It is possible we could have shifted you. These rooms are not bad all the time, so that is why we ask guests to let us know. I will now go to housekeeping and ask them to do a hot water/bi carb soda treatment of the drain. We are unable to use harsh chemicals in our of our drains because of our island sewerage treatment plant. We will have our desalination plant up and running soon and then we won't be using the borewater in the showers anymore. This will be a huge plus for everyone. Also we do have our newer Studio rooms with a modern bathroom, and they are very lovely. Happy travels. Kind regards Denise

Thank you Kerry for your holiday review and apologise I am only responding now. We are constantly doing improvements to all of our accommodation and bar/bistro area. The island cabins and palm rooms are also getting new bathrooms which is very exciting. We are owned by 3 local families and this was an older accommodation place which is being revamped. Plus we do have new rooms that were built 18 months ago. There is quite a variety of accommodation available for guests to choose from. Good morning Michelle. Thank you for reviewing your holiday. Michelle I have had a look at our current bistro menu and there are GF options plus the ability to alter some meals to become gluten free. We always recommend that our guests chat with the bistro team to discuss dietary requirements as required. I know we have added a couple of more vegetarian options to the menu but this is something we will continue to push with the kitchen team. When our guests are booking there is an option to advise of dietary requirements plus we send out the bistro menus for guests to browse. Michelle a lot of the Hideaway accommodation has a basic kitchenette for those wishing to do any self catering. Unfortunately the Palm and garden rooms do not have any cooking facilities available to the guests. There is limited space in these room types for washing up dishes and having a microwave. The Palm rooms may get upgraded to this level into the future with their new fitouts completed. We do ask our guests to carefully check the accommodation styles they book to ensure it meets their holiday requirements. I definitely recommend an Island cabin, or the Studio rooms in Putney Place as they extra facilities. Hi Howard. Thank you for your holiday comments. Howard we do encourage guests to travel on our ferry Keppel Konnections as it arrives first and often has a lot of guest luggage to unload. Once the tractor/trailer pulls away from the ferry, it then goes to Freedom Fast Cats to collect guest luggage. We only have 1 tractor/trailer unfortunately. For guests departing on the 8am ferries, reception is open from 7am and always arranges the luggage men to take guest luggage to both ferries if they are departing together. Guests only need to advise us of their departure times and which ferry and we look after that for you. In future please also chat with the lovely reception team. Kind regards

Thank you for taking the time to share some feedback. We apologise if it wasn't made clear to you that our accommodation is definitely back to basics and we do not provide full kitchenettes but rather just the basic self-catering facilities. We try our utmost to not oversell our property as we aim to be basic beach living rather than a high end resort and often guests love the simple way of life. It is disappointing that you didn't enjoy your experience at the restaurant, as we often receive great feedback on the relaxed, beachy vibe. Sand can be a battle, as a bistro right on the beachfront but we do our best to blow it out every morning and sweep between services but we can't guarantee you won't have some sand between your toes. We do apologise that the arrival of the water tanks coincided with your stay, as with much of Australia, we are very water poor at the moment so we did need new tanks to fill with town water off the barge. We hope you can understand this is just a logistical issue with being based on an island with no mainland power or water. We are always trying to grow and improve as a business and hope you'll visit again and notice our improvements. Kind Regards,

Thank you Jenny for your comments in regards to bistro experience. I totally understand your comments. We had a new head chef just before Christmas and to try and maintain quick turnarounds he did simplify the menu. We also do normally have snack menu up to 11.30 before lunch. Also I am aware that the one Friday night buffet was not a success. Once again this was a one off. Our normal Parilla BBQ buffets receive rave reviews. I apologise that this was not a good experience for you. We look forward to your next visit and we welcome the opportunity to have you try our bistro meals again for a better experience. We are a basic 3 star accommodation provider on the most beautiful island which provides amazing snorkelling, kayaking, relaxing, hiking opportunities. We do try to provide milk and bread for guests but there is no supermarket on the island. Our bistro is open for all meals everyday and there is a mini menu which runs from breakfast through to 11.30am each day.
