Budget suite on a non-budget friendly island
The owners were very nice and caring. For the first night, they placed me in a different property, as they informed me on arrival that the studio I rented would be available starting the next day. The studio is modern and mostly clean. The fridge is tiny. I found the selection of foods in a supermarket to be much more limited than on other islands, with many items past expiration. I don’t think saving money by cooking would work well. The bed was comfortable. The TV didn’t have regular channels, but YouTube did work. The property is located on a major road, and there was significant road noise during the day. The laundry is available in the building, but you must pre-arrange it with the owners. The property is located within 15 min of driving to beaches and restaurants located at the lux beach resorts. The roads are narrow, often unpaved, and dark at night, so driving at night was somewhat challenging. I wouldn’t do it after a couple of drinks. I do recommend this property if you want to explore beaches and dine at restaurants. However, for a budget vacation, I don’t think you get the most bang for your buck. Anguilla’s tourism is focused on luxury resorts and dining. I paid 100 USD for a tasty but modest dinner without alcohol. Lobster at a local grill on a beach was also 100. In my experience, more developed islands (Aruba, etc) offer affordable hotel options on the beach, with much less expensive restaurants within walking distance, and more affordable direct flights.
