About a month before arrival, I attempted to contact the hostel to inform them that we would be arriving late at night. I called the listed phone number multiple times over several days, but no one answered. Eventually, someone picked up – a man claiming to be the cleaner – who proceeded to yell at me for calling what he claimed was an “emergency number.” He told me to use an email address that I was supposedly sent. When I explained that I had never received such an email, he refused to provide it.
Hotels.com tried their best to assist and added a note to the booking stating we’d be arriving around midnight. Despite this, when we showed up on the day of arrival, the hostel was completely deserted. No staff were present, and the room we had booked was locked. We tried contacting another number and a Gmail address posted on a sign outside the building – but got no response.
In the end, we were forced to crash on an available mattress in a dorm room just to have a roof over our heads for the night. We left first thing the next morning and checked into a proper hotel instead.
Hotels.com went above and beyond to help us and, after multiple failed attempts to reach the hostel themselves, they refunded us in full.
The hostel itself is not just utterly unprofessional – it’s small, dirty, and, in my opinion, a serious fire hazard. Tiny cramped rooms, luggage blocking hallways, and barely any visible emergency exits.
Hotels.com gets 10 out of 10. The hostel? Zero
we arrived before 1 pm (check in time is 5 pm), but the staff welcomed and allowed us to check in and get in the room with no charge foe early check in (as the typhoon Hagibis would hit Tokyo that day). Thank you very much :)
