Looking for a quiet weekend secluded in the wilderness? Or are you looking for the perfect home base for all of your adventures on the trail? Perhaps you just want a warm and cozy cabin to return to after a long day fishing or hunting? Elmwood Outpost is exactly what you seek, no matter your goals. This isn't just a place to stay, but an experience you won't soon forget.
The Elmwood Outpost gives you all the excitement of staying in an off-grid property without the work of it. The cabin is powered by solar panels, with a backup propane generator for cloudy periods. Water is held in an in-cabin cistern (year-round) or pumped by hand at the outdoor pitcher pump (warm weather only). Woods surround the property with no light pollution. On a clear night, you can see the Milky Way or even the northern lights! It is a peaceful, quiet setting, perfect for the ideal getaway.
The main cabin is a large, open-concept space with one queen bed. There are two reclining La-Z-Boy couches and a spacious kitchen with a stove, oven, and refrigerator. The dining area is a large table with rustic log chairs. The cabin has a wood stove for the perfect ambiance on a cold winter evening and a propane furnace for those days you don't want to worry about a fire.
The bunkhouse is a separate building that has two sets of twin XL bunk beds. The bunkhouse also has a wood stove and propane furnace. Please note that the bunkhouse has stairs leading to it, built into, and around the bedrock, which can be uneven or slippery. Guests who are uncomfortable or unable to use stairs should not stay in the bunkhouse.
Included in the stay is the private use of a cedar barrel sauna with a wood-fired stove. This is the traditional Scandinavian way of bathing and is the only bathing option on site. A hot sauna followed by a cold rinse will leave you feeling refreshed and cleaner than you would in a shower. The sauna also features a hot water tank on the woodstove and a handcrafted "shower bucket". For the truly brave at heart, try a cold plunge in the river or even snow angels!
The outhouse is frequently referred to as 'the nicest outhouse available' and the only bathroom facility on the premises. While the word inspires negative connotations, this is a properly ventilated, cedar-walled building that, we think you'll agree, is nicer than many traditional bathrooms. It even has a propane heater!
For those with trailers or boats, there is ample parking and turnaround space.
As this is a traditional log cabin located in the woods, there are a variety of insects that frequent the area. While pest mitigation happens regularly, guests should be aware that some insects will always be present on the property, depending on the time of year and weather.
