Mascaros - beautiful, large house with own pool


Mascaros is ideal for a peaceful family holiday with friends. It is also a great location for special interest groups such as cyclists or golfers. It offers complete privacy, security, tranquillity and beauty.

Situated at the entrance to a medieval village, Mascaros offers guests an opportunity to stay in one of Ullastret's and the Costa Brava's most beautiful country houses. Lovingly restored, the house retains many original features. There is a 12 m swimming pool, a gazebo looking over a fishpond, covered table tennis and several peaceful seating areas for sun and shade in the large private garden.

Mascaros has a large family kitchen and a dining room with original fireplace. There is also a cosy reading area and a table football. First floor lounge with a smart tv and a snooker table. Puzzles and games are provided. The house has a good wi-fi connection and a library.

Mascaros has 8 bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms. It sleeps up to 20 guests. Cots and highchairs are available.

There are neighbours nearby and therefore the house is not suitable for noisy gatherings.

There is air conditioning on the top floor only, all other rooms have electric fans.

We provide bed linen as well as a set of towels including beach towels.

The tourist tax is payable on arrival (1 euro per adult per night for the first seven nights).

There is an extra fee for charging an electric car.

My extended family of 14 had a wonderful stay at Mascaros . It is a huge 500 year old mansion with thick walls and floors of stone . The rooms were large with high ceilings and the house and kitchen were fully equipped. Outi arranged for neighbor, a chef , to cater a birthday party for us one night which was great and included a paella . There were many nice beaches close by which we drove to and Girona was a close town to visit. The house has many fans to help with cooling and the 2 third floor bedrooms have air conditioning. We stayed in June when Spain was having a heatwave , if the summers continue to be hotter than normal the only suggestion that I would make is providing air conditioning in all of the bedrooms. Otherwise the house is perfect and Outi and Mark great hosts.

very pleasant but hot!

Our family had an enjoyable stay at this house which is located in a medieval village close to a bar and restaurant. Our only disappointment was the misleading listing of having air-conditioning. Only the two bedrooms at the top of the house have A/C. There is no A/C in any other bedroom or living area. This is only an issue in the summer months and fans for each room are provided. Other than that, the house is as described, there is lots to do for families of all ages and plenty of space both indoors and out. The owners responded well to any queries. Had it not been for the issue of A/C I would have given it 5 stars.

Wonderful property

We stayed at Mascaros with our extended multigenerational family and we couldn’t recommend this beautiful villa highly enough. The historical property has been sympathetically restored throughout with lots of charming touches, yet at the same time is a practical, well-equipped and comfortable place to stay. It had something for everyone, with the pool, fishpond and trampoline being particular hits with the children. The village itself, Ullastret, was charming and a stone’s throw from other historic towns such as Peratallada and Pals, and very close to the coast with its amazing beaches. We would particularly like to commend the exceptional owners and hosts, Outi and Mark. We had an unexpected event occur during our stay and they really went above and beyond to assist us where they could, and we will be forever grateful. They also arranged a local chef to come to the villa to prepare a delicious feast for our family which we would highly recommend! We would not hesitate to visit again and would highly recommend Mascaros to family and friends.

Historical Gem

The property was extraordinary. A combination of history and luxury. Each bedroom was uniquely furnished with antiques from another era as well as providing every comfort. Our family loved it. There was space for everyone to hang out and rooms to gather. The ping pong table got a lot of use. The koi pond was beautiful as well as entertaining. The pool was lovely. Photos cannot do this place justice. Everything was well stocked in the kitchen. Every amenity thoughtfully provided. Information was available for visiting the extraordinary small medieval villages in the area. We went to several village markets for wonderful local produce and products. Snorkeling was a big hit. The location in this very small village was perfect. We could walk to the bakery for fresh warm morning pastries and the local restaurant provided a magical evening to the whole family. Highly recommend.

Simply amazing!

Me and my family (17 people in total) spend a week in Mascaros, and it was fantastic. The house is perfect for a family vacation with plenty of room for everyone, no matter age. There are lots of cozy areas where you can relax with a book, and several dining areas with room for everyone. Outi and Mark are very nice people and extremely helpful, and we have had great communication from start to finish. We can highly recommend a visit to Mascarot, and we'd be happy to spend another week there!

Fantastic place for holidays with large groups

We go away as a big group of families with young children each year - and I think this was our favourite. Ullastret is a great base for a holiday. The house is well located with restaurants in village and short drives away from beaches and loads of day trips. Loads to do in house as well with fusbal, table-tennis, pool etc. And lots of lounging and eating spaces. The house itself is lovely too. Old farmhouse with lots of character. Mark and Outi also know area well and are very happy to share their knowledge. Everyone in the group had a great time!

Family in Mascaros

Could not have been more perfect. We were a family of 15 - parents, kids and 7 grandkids ranging in age from 21 to 7. There were so many private spaces as well as group spaces including ping pong foosball puzzles games and a wonderful perfect temp pool. Everything needed for cooking and eating was supplied. A nearby grocer. A small walled village next door and more small villages to explore. This house is amazing. The owners welcome us graciously, were available, but left us to enjoy ourselves. All 15 of us loved this space. All would return in a heartbeat. Thank you Outi and Mark.

Great family accommodation for 10 or more people

Superb medieval property sympathetically modernised. Clean and comfortable and ideal for family dining and activities - well stocked kitchen equipment. The pond with koi carp - securely fenced - and decked seating area was a hit for both breakfast and afternoon tea - also other options for outdoor eating as well as large family BBQ . Enclosed child friendly garden and enclosed swimming pool were very appreciated too. One point in review for other customers- there are a number of steps at the property, both inside and outside to bear in mind for suitability of occupants. Mark and Outi were exceptionally good hosts and very helpful in every way. Well done - we shall return.

Amazing villa to spend time with friends and family

This property was perfect as a place for us to stay with family and friends it has something for everyone with snooker, table tennis, quiet areas to sit and if you have a small toddler steps can be a worry but there is a very nice seating area that can be secured and safe for them to play. All bedrooms are a good size , kitchen was well equipped and clean. We hired the villa for ourselves and guest to stay for our sons wedding that was being held in the area, Outi and Mark could not have been more accommodating helping to organise a paella night so that further guest could join us for the evening., Fantastic time had by all.

Magnifique mas, très bien entretenue à l'extérieur comme à l'intérieur et conforme à nos attentes. Merci aux propriétaires, Mark et Outi pour leur accueil et leur gentillesse, nous avons passé une semaine formidable en fin d'année, le soleil était au rendez-vous et la maison est très fonctionnelle et très bien équipée, idéale pour famille nombreuse avec plein d'enfants....... Elle doit être également très agréable à vivre l'été avec sa piscine et ses petits coins ombragés par-ci par-là...........

Vraiment des vacances très réussies: la maison est tout simplement incroyable, belles pierres, feu de cheminée et canapés douillets. Mille recoins pour que tout le monde trouve sa place. Une grande cuisine chaleureuse et parfaitement équipée. L’accueil est irréprochable: feu ronflant dans les cheminées, boissons fraîches au frigo et même un énorme gâteau pour nous souhaiter la bienvenue. Et pour ne rien gâcher, la région regorge de belles choses à voir et à faire. À recommander!

The house far exceeded our expectations. Truly delighted.

11 adults all fitted in with plenty of room. The kitchen had more than ample implements to cook lunches & dinners. All the bedrooms were delightful. The closeness of 2 very good restaurants was a bonus. Only 20 minutes in the car to Lafranc, a great beach town. Visited the Dali exhibits and had plenty of time for a lunch before returning. All in all, a terrific week away.
