WaKeeney is recognized as the Christmas City of the High Plains with a 35 foot tree made from fresh pine with over 6800 colored lights which is on display in the center of main street from the Saturday following Thanksgiving until after New Year's. WaKeeney is also known as the Gateway to Cedar Bluff Lake which is located approximately 20 miles to the southeast.
