Dovecote cottage is just the perfect place for holidays : beautifully renovated, fully equipped, comfortable and clean, set in a wonderful garden. In the owner’s property which is very useful : Elspeth is also the perfect host : present when you need information or help yet very discreet ! We totally recommend this place from where you can go walking long walks and visit the marvellous Costwolds.
The Dovecote is something very special indeed - a charming idyll tucked away behind the Old Manor in Letcombe Regis, in itself a beautiful village. A place to be completely at ease.
Our stay was made very comforable by the hospitality of Elspeth, a most attentive and gracious host.
We spent a happy and peaceful Christmas weekend here, and shall cherish the memories for years to come.
What a fantastic conversion from the old dove cote to a modern comfortable place to stay, the location is very quiet as it is set in a large fantastic old garden. Our host was very welcoming and we had no issues to trouble Elspeth with, just sad to to have to say good bye!
We had a beautiful stay at the Dovecote. The house was perfectly cozy and appointed with everything we needed. Elspeth was really helpful with explaining driving rules and sign meanings whenever we asked her. The country roads were a challenge for these two Americans!
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Dovecote. The location is great, with many lovely walks nearby. The local pub the Greyhound Inn does amazing food. We had good weather and had great fun swming in the pool. The hosts are friendly and welcoming. The accommodation was clean, modern whilst retaining the original features. Good WiFi connection and great that you could log into your Amzon Prime and Netflix account via the TV. One of our favourite things was to sit by the brook at the end of the garden with a cuppa, watching the wildlife.
Very relaxing break away in the beautiful Dovecote, the cottage is lovely and Elspeth has catered for your every need. The garden is so peaceful and we were fortunate to have good weather so we made the most of it. The Greyhound pub two minutes walk away did lovely food and a great Sunday Lunch. Would really love to come and visit again sometime. Thank you so much Elspeth
Perfect 4 night stay. Beautiful grounds. Friendly and accommodating hosts. Dovecote was highly appointed and very well designed. Loved the chalk stream and our secluded section of the garden. Great walks and spectacular scenery.
The Dovecote was superb and a wonderful home away from home. It was clean and the setting so peaceful. Elspeth was an excellent hostess - from the time of booking to our farewell. She also provided such lovely food and goodies and in particular her homemade bread was delicious! We highly recommend The Dovecote!!
The most amazing weekend away. Elspeth is the perfect host and the breakfast supplies were wonderful. We had a wonderfully relaxing stay and would 100% recommend it to anyone wanting a taste of luxury in the countryside.
From first communication with the owner to arrival, quality of accommodation and exceptional hospitality this stay was perfect. In the days we explored the area including Blenheim Palace and the Oxford architecture and at night we either ate at the local pub or in the Dovecote. Highly recommended
This is a lovely property in an idyllic setting! Elspeth, the owner, was very accommodating and attentive to our needs. She supplied a delicious selection of breakfast/brunch items including a homemade loaf of bread, not to mention a cold bottle of white wine which was very welcome after a day of travel and sightseeing. The cottage is very comfortable and well equipped and we especially enjoyed the private garden as we ate breakfast and watched and listened to all the birds! Truly an outstanding property!
Beautiful property in lovely surroundings. Elspeth is an outstanding host that ensures the property has everything you need for your stay. We were made to feel very welcome and Elspeth is very generous in how she looks after her guests. Would highly recommend the property if you are in this area.

Modern luxury encased in history
We absolutely loved our visit to the Dovecote Cottage. I'd actually been looking for something in the Southampton (coastal) area when this historic cottage somehow appeared on my screen. It looked so charming that we booked it for my birthday weekend and made the trip inland.
We'd originally planned to spend quite a bit of time in Oxford, but our timing coincided with a turbulent October storm. The Dovecote was so lovely and relaxing that we simply holed up and enjoyed the understated luxury of this little relic of the past.
It's quite evident that the Dovecote is a "labor of love" with Elspeth's warm and welcoming touches. A loaf of wholesome, homemade bread was waiting for us when we arrived, and the fridge was stocked with all the gourmet fixings for a lovely lunch (or two). And not only did she have a beautiful fruit bowl on the table, but she had sweet and freshly washed strawberries, raspberries and blueberries in the fridge, complete with yogurt, cereal and milk for the next day's breakfast. The linens on the bed were heavenly, including down pillows that were so comfortable that I want to buy some myself.
The cottage is literally just a few steps from the village main street where you can stop in at the charming, Greyhound Inn for a pint and/or a delicious homemade meal. The surrounding area is rural farmland reminiscent of days gone by. Although this miniature village seems in the middle of nowhere, the larger village of Wantage is just a 5 minute drive away and has a multiple of shops and a large Waitrose to meet your every need. Oxford is around 30 minutes away. The only downside to the cottage (if it even is one) is that it is located on the far side of a large back lawn of the family residence and you must access it by the side gate of the main home. Elspeth and her family are very respectful of your privacy and once you're in the cottage, it's extremely tranquil and private.
I've stayed in many old, lovely cottages in my life and some of them can be a bit damp and cold with an assortment of challenges, such as cold water or the heat not properly working. Not the case here...we were cozy and comfortable and privy to every modern convenience.
We absolutely loved hanging out in the cottage with a glass of wine and a slice of homemade bread while riding out the storm.
Thank you, Elspeth, for preserving and sharing your lovely slice of history with us!

The Dovecote is a great place to escape to. Beautifully presented, comfortable accommodation in a pretty village in South Oxfordshire.
Elspeth is a fantastic host, stocking the fridge with items for breakfast and even baking a fresh loaf of bread for us!!
