Ruins of Wigmore Castle There has been a castle at Wigmore since 1069, and its earthworks date largely from the 12th century, the surviving ruins date from the 13th and 14th centuries and represent the fortress of the Mortimer dynasty from which they controlled large parts of central Wales.
