Royalton Splash Riviera Cancun, An Autograph Collection All-Inclusive Resort

2/10 Terrible

"Worst food of any resort I've ever been to. Buffett was sup-par compared to 10 other all inclusive I've stayed at. Sadly the buffet was still better than 5 of the restaurants that needed reservations for. The Italian and French were the only good restaurants. I've had a better steak at a gas station then the "steak house." Only got 3 of the meats brought to our table in over an hour at the Brazilian Grill. The Mexican restaurants were awful. Service at every restaurant besides the 2 good ones was abysmal. You might see your waiter once after your order food. Impossible to get drink refills. Tried several bars and had to ask for a double in every drink to have it even taste like there was something in it. I never felt buzzed a single day even after drinking 10-12 cocktails a day. We had a party of 13. I got sick on day 3 with Norovirus and 7 of us had it by day 5 and headed home. Room was very nice, clean, and taken care of each day by staff. Lazy river was great. Half the slides were shut off each time we tried but what we did experience was very fun. Wifi worked really well. So many resorts in the area I try to go to new ones each visit but I can confidently say this is one that won't ever be on our list again."

"Resort is beautiful, there was a lot of seaweed due to the time of the year. Not much entertainment at night, included activities were not working. The staff was not very friendly or helpful. Compared to Ocean resorts in Jamaica and Dominican Republic.. Mexico was the worse. We will not be back."

"Everything clean, but age of property is showing through failure to invest in real updates instead of frequent cheap and obvious patch repairs, and fewer staff to save money. Regardless, of that, and the continued removal and shrinking of activities and many special personal touches that used to make this a genuine luxury property, we will return because of the unparalleled natural beauty and commitment of most of staff, many of whom call us by name on arrival, despite meeting thousands of people each year. Especially Moses on the shuttle, Roman in lunch buffet above swim up bar, and former 12 year unparalleled masseuse David Gutierrez Romero, whom we now travel to his home and pay for massages, several times every week we visit. He is now with IBerostar and just won a deserved award for spa sales and massage. Another mistake by Occidental as a corporation- by letting great, loyal, employees take their talents to other resorts."

10/10 Excellent

"Something random but helpful is you can skip the lobby on the elevator (LB) by pressing (-1) which depending on the elevator leads to the pool and restaurant area or the street level in front. I didn't figure that out until my 3rd day. Besides the retention/time share staff making things a bit awkward the rest of my stay was excellent."
