Agaete Agaete Valley Hotels

"We had a poor experience and multiple issues with our room and were informed by reception, "sorry, this is the standard".... 1) I accept not all rooms have a sea view, but ours was looking into a cliff face with virtually no natural light entering the room... For 230 euros! The room felt like a utility closet that had been repurposed. Unacceptable. 2) The room had a mouldy, putrid smelling AstroTurf 'terrace' that faced said cliff. See attached photos of the florid mould. 3) The WiFi in the room was broken / could not even load a WhatsApp message. If this is the 'standard' that Occidental hotels holds themself to then they should reclassify this as a 2-3* hotel. I have stayed in cleaner, better 3* hotels for 1/3rd of the price. We would certainly not recommend anyone stays here or mistakes it for a luxury experience. It is a box-ticking "4*" hotel which on closer inspection does not live up to this grade. "

"Communication with owner was brilliant: answered quickly, gave advice on local shops and restaurant and great directions. The villa is easy to find and just a short drive from Agaete, with its restaurants ,shops and natural swimming pool. Stop at Galdar for your shopping with its many large supermarkets . The villa is lovely beautifully furnished , and has everything you would need for your stay . The welcome goodies in the kitchen were much appreciated. The outside area is amazing with stunning views to the hills beyond. There is a large covered area with dining table and heaters and an outdoor BBQ and also a utility room. There are sunloungers and another covered area with tables and sofas where we enjoyed breakfast in the sun every day. There is a small swimming pool which even in Feb was warm enough for a swim and to play water basketball . Short walks take you to San Pedro, a couple of bars & restaurants, coffee plantations offering tours and tastings , and start points to many walks in the hills. The villa is the perfect location for touring the island , just a short drive to the main road that circles the island. We had a great stay and would love to give 5 stars but there are a couple of things to mention: 1. 2nd bathroom is outside the main villa 2. The villa is the bottom floor of a two storey house , and we did have issues with noise and light disturbance from upstairs guests 3. Bedrooms were a little hot and stuffy and as no A/C could be hot in the summer . "

"La Casa del Molino de Viento is a fantastic house, full of charm and character, and many memories of the owners' family. The pool is huge, and there are all manner of other things to keep kids entertained - ping pong, croquet & basketball outside, and many board games inside. There's also an outdoor gym. Rito visits to clean the pool each morning, and brings fresh bread and even churros! The local town, Agaete, is pretty in places, but a little on the quiet side. Very few bars/restaurants were open past 6pm. The scenery along the coastline, especially towards the Tamadaba natural park, is stunning. The natural pools at Puerto des Nieves are also worth a visit, although the steps can be very slippery."

"My family had a great time staying at the Asomadita. It was such a perfect size for our group of 5, with plenty of room for all and options to gather as a group. It was very well equipped and very clean.The mountain views are spectacular and just based in a lovely location, for easy drives to the coast, salt pools and lovely restaurants in the north west of the island.The heated pool was a great size to swim & mess about in, as well as the games room being a fun addition.The only slight negative was there is no air conditioning in the bedrooms - which I think we just naturally assumed there might be (didn't check properly and that's on us) - but understandable with the age of the property. Plus there were plenty of fans on offer to take the edge off the heat.But that's not to take away from what a great house this was to spend valuable holiday time at. Highly recommended. "
