Alofi is the idyllic capital city of Niue and fronts the tropical shoreline of the Pacific Ocean. Explore the seafront town to find cafés and vendors selling tropical fruits or hit the beach for a swim in the warm water. Go fishing for tuna, wahoo or mahimahi, or spot young humpback whales as they breach and splash in the waters nearby.
Take a stroll through town and spend some time getting acquainted with the people and businesses that call Alofi home. Get to know the locals as you drink your morning coffee or fruit shake. As you look out to sea, you might see fishers reeling in the morning catch from the sun-dappled reef. Whales swim in these waters to birth their young during the nursing season. Catch a glimpse of the whales and their young between July and September.

Stop by snorkeling hotspots and plunge into the Pacific Ocean’s stunning underwater world. You can also join specialized fishing tours, where the likelihood of hooking a mahimahi or wahoo is high. Alofi is situated on Niue’s central western coast. The island’s facilities include a supermarket and an international post office. During the peak of summer, Niue can become very hot and humid. Visit between April and November to enjoy milder temperatures and a laid-back experience of island life.
