Thought we were booking a room with a fireplace and breakfast included. Nope, no room with a fireplace and the restaurant was closed, permanently. I showed the girl at the front desk my reservation( through hotels.com) and all she could say was “we should have booked through Hawks Nest Website” so there was nothing she could do to help me. She had already given the room with the fireplace to someone else. We received a less then desirable room, had to move furniture around to plug in coffee pot and microwave. Coffee pot never worked. Since restaurant was closed and no venues close by, we managed to find a bag of popcorn for dinner. Very disappointed in our stay. Won’t be going back.

Scenic location, but....
Arrived at hotel expecting that restaurant on site would be open. Had read that there was a restaurant at the lodge and West Virginia Travel Center, located on I-77, confirmed that earlier in the day of arrival. At check-in, were told the restaurant was not available as it was under renovation and had been since summer. What a bummer!! Ansted is a very small town and there was only one eatery open within a mile or two of the lodge. Convenience breakfast was available in morning. The four-story lodge is laid out oddly. Have to go though a maze to find your room. The front desk had no diagram to show the layout. No locations for local restaurants. Management of this facility seems to have done a poor job providing tools and keeping employees informed. The staff was friendly and helpful to the extent they could.

Comfortable but dated.
Place was comfortable, and quiet - but dated. Could use some remodeling. Kitchen only open for continental Breakfast. Waiter for area forgot to turn on heat for tea hot water. Had to wait and ended up having warm tea. Beautiful views of valley.

Restaurant?
Breakfast was available but no other meals. After driving most of the day we were too tired to drive out for dinner. Building needs freshening up as outdated.

Passing through , one night stay
One night stay , passing through . Ended up doing the tram & jet boat and really enjoyed it ! Area is so beautiful & we wouldn't have stayed anywhere else ! The one drawback is that the building is very dated , but it was clean & comfortable and everyone was very nice

This hotel is amazing. Right in the heart of great hiking and scenic vistas. Clean and comfortable. Wish we had planned to stay longer. Will visit again.

It was the little things that disappointed - no replacement of shampoo or cream, failure to empty bathroom trash. And, the breakfast was a nothing. If this was typical of the State Park system, then someone.needs to review the guidelines.

Lost reservation.
Our reservation was not received through hotels.com to the hotel. They gave away our room and we had to be very inconvenienced. They gave us another room but it was not easily accessible and breakfast was just ok.

A great way to experience a state park
We really enjoyed our stay at Hawks Nest. All rooms have a balcony/patio, most with a gorgeous view. Ours unfortunately didn't, but we still had a good time and made the most of all the common areas and the tables at the overlook. There's also a tram down to a jet boat ride right at the hotel. Good fun. Also comfortable beds and pillows though the room was quite small. This is a super value, older hotel that feels perfect for a state park atmosphere. We would stay again.

A Beautiful View to Wake Up To
It was little tricky to find, but well worth the drive. Among the best hotels I've stayed in to date. Quiet, clean, with comfortable beds. If you want more than just a place to sleep and love what nature has to offer, put Hawk's Nest Lodge on your list of places to visit.

The hotel was great. The room was a bit dated but very clean. The view from the gorge side was absolutely amazing. Do NOT plan on eating at the restaurant. The staff was horrible the food was prison food that they charged a good deal for. And they didn't have half the items on the menus. Breakfast was the same. Food even worse. Still recommend the stay just don't eat there food

Immersivery Nature Experience
The reception and the staff were exceptionally friendly, and though the building is dated, it's excellently maintained. The highlight is definitely the amazing mountaintop/ cliffside setting. The roops are basic in amenity but comfortable with, once again, amazing wooded or vista views. I'd return!

The room was clean and quiet, the bed was comfortable. The bathroom was a bit cramped. There was no microwave or mini refrigerator in the room. The free breakfast was terrible. The coffee was watery and they didn't even have any black tea.

Lovely and clean hotel in a state park
The hotel looks dated but it was very clean and comfortable. The Hawks Nest State Park is quite small but we were only there for 1 night so it was enough for us to explore and enjoy the trails and views. When we returned from our walk in the morning, after breakfast (which was fine) we saw 15 Hawks swirling over the hotel. It's great that check out is 12noon so that we could enjoy the area in the morning.

Great place to stay
Our room was large and very comfortable. There was a large picture window in the sleeping area to the east so you can see the sun rise over the mountains to burn off the fog and in the seating area there were large windows with a sliding glass door leading to the balcony that overlooks the gorge. The view is breath taking! It's an older building that has not been updated. The carpet had spots and you can clearly see where they have patched some areas in the walls and ceilings. It's an old bathroom but the shower was good. If you are used to camping, it will be above your expectations. If you are used to brand new hotel rooms, you might not be happy. We thought it was a great place to stay and would definitely go back. You can walk out of the building and go down the stairs (LOT of stairs) to an outlook overlooking the gorge. You can drive down the road down into the gorge and back up again. The views and scenery are incredible! The people there were extremely nice and very helpful.

The HNSP Lodge was a convenient place to stay for our WV adventure. Our check-in was swift and courteous and our room had an amazing view of the New River Gorge. We could watch and listen to the trains roll past as well as take a tram down to the gorge for more amazing scenery. Our room was clean and comfortable. The place is old and may not have all the up-graded decor, but it is efficient. The price per night was a bargain, as well, that also included a continental breakfast.

I found this hotel to be run down & disgusting. It could have only received its rating of excellent by customers under false circumstances. I am ashamed for it to represent our beautiful state park. Although it is prime tourist time the jet boat & tram were both closed down @ 4pm on Friday evening which is 2 hours & 45 minutes earlier than advertised on the website. The service was so bad at the restaurant to start off that we got up and walked out before ordering. There was tons of mildew around the bath tub. The room smelled sour. We had a pet friendly room and it reeked of pet odors & the carpet was heavily stained. The comforter and sheets on one of the beds was wet with an unknown substance. It looked like something out of a 1980's horror movie. It was much smaller than a microtel room. There was no desk, fridge, or microwave. It would have been disgusting at any price, but it was a complete rip off for what we paid. The complimentary breakfast was sooooo cheap. No protein & pastries were cut into tiny pieces. To top that off there was a tip jar set out by the employees. In all of my travels to much nicer hotels I have NEVER seen a tip jar for the complimentary breakfast. They didn't even have lids for the coffee. The partially completed mini golf course & play ground were covered in tree debris and appeared abandoned. What a shameful representation of the state of WE. I will never be staying at this dump again.

A pleasant surprise!
We stayed here for two days on a waterfall photo trip. We were pleasantly surprised with the quality and comfort of the rooms. The only negative was the strong musty odor when you're in the stairwells. It could have been related to the hot humid weather and the stairwell was close to the pool area. The pool was also nice and clean. Very few options for meals out-Subway or Gino's pizza. That is why the restaurant has a captive audience! We ate at the restaurant, which had decent food and excellent service.

Breathtaking views.
This is a very bautifully located hotel with amazing views. The room was very clean, had nice upgrades such a new TV set, modern lamps, new carpet. However the room amenities were very much lacking from what had been promised by the hotel.com site. There are no refrigerators, microwaves or blow driers in the rooms, nor is there a fire place. The climate control for the room has to be managed from the front desk. We had to call in the middle of the night, because we got too cold. There is no heat in the bathroom. It was 21 degrees when we stayed there and the bathroom was ice cold. We would definetely stay there again without bringing any food or beer and not during winter. Oh, and bring my own blow dryer :).

This hotel needs updating, but it was clean and comfortable. We had a room on the 4th floor with a whole wall of windows and a balcony on the other. If you don't like outside access be sure to state that when you make reservations, as other rooms on lower level were outside access. Also, I read somewhere in expedia's description that all rooms have fireplaces, but that isn't true. Only 1 room has a fireplace, and we didn't get it. Breakfast is free, something to skip. Otherwise, we really enjoyed our stay and would stay again.. I bet it's beautiful in the summer.

We stayed here to experience the river gorge. We did not get to ride the tram and jetboat because it is closed on Wednesdays. The park museum is closed down and there is nothing else at the park but hiking trails. There is a very beautiful view of the gorge from the 4th floor room. Beware if you are using GPS or yahoo maps or anything to get to the park. you end up in dead ends. We spent 2 hours lost with directions. We called to park and they gave us directions. They are very friendly. The view is beautiful. That is the bast part. There are pretty sights nearby like the New River Gorge bridge. Free breakfast. Good If you are going to this area for something else. The park is not a destination by itself, especially on Wednesday!

Stayed one night at Hawks Nest Resort. The canyon view from my window was beautiful. The room was clean, but needed some updating. The outside of the resort needs pressure washing or painting. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The dinning area was clean and breakfast was good. I would stay again.
