Aspen Highlands

Famous powder bowls, slopes with views of spectacular wilderness and steep runs that challenge even veteran skiers make this spot a local favorite.

Known as “the locals' mountain,” the Aspen Highlands ski area offers a variety of challenging runs as well as easier, more accessible slopes. The mountain's proximity to scenic spots and hearty alpine dining options adds to its universal appeal. Experience the area on skis, by board or on foot.

Ascend to Highland Peak at 12,400 feet (3,780 kilometers) above sea level and plummet down the Highland Bowl, one of the Highlands' main attractions. The crescent-shaped ridge slopes inward, piling up powder and creating an off-piste experience for seasoned skiers. Runs down Temerity and the Olympic Bowl are similarly exhilarating.

Loge Peak and Cloud Nine ski areas offer easier options to the bottom of the mountain. Breeze down blue runs, which cut through evergreen woodlands. Cruise onto the long green courses that allow even first-time skiers to travel extended distances. Spend a week or more and try to ski all 122 trails. You’ll always find a suitable course, even if you aren't quite ready to hit double black diamond runs.

Cloud Nine Alpine Bistro offers up equal parts elegance and raucous fun with an afternoon ski-in-dance-out après ski scene. In the evenings, take a snowcat ride to the venue for a unique dinner experience. Sample raclette and fondue, two popular Swiss-style melted cheese dishes.

Explore the local area in summer. White River National Forest is home to the famously photogenic Maroon Bells, a series of peaks rising above a clear lake. Hike through the wilderness and bring along a camera to capture photos of the awe-inspiring scenery.

The winter season lasts from December until early April. Reach the village via Aspen airport, which serves major cities, such as Denver and Chicago. The Aspen Highlands Village itself is set against stunning backdrops and offers numerous dining and lodging options. The area even has several art studios to browse when you aren't plunging down the mountain's precipices.

Explore all of Aspen Snowmass, with four mountains providing endless opportunities for year-round fun and excitement.
