Property description needs to accurately note there are two half bathrooms, not two full bathrooms one bathroom enclosure has a toilet, the other has the shower so in effect there is really one bathroom but it is divided by a wall. Few small items like no Kleenex anywhere, plate of half eaten food was left on the kitchen counter, a large hairball was on the carpet, and no curtains on Windows and second bedroom so that late sleeping is nearly impossible. Otherwise unit was relatively clean and neat. The patio balcony in front is the nicest feature and makes it very comfortable.
My family and I had a great stay at Trout House! Perfect location, close enough to everything but far enough away for a quiet stay. Beds were comfy, used the very functional kitchen. The place is rustic but everything works well, awesome water pressure and love the history of the house. Great deck for relaxing after a day of exploring. We would definitely stay again!

The Perfect Escape
I can't imagine a better place to enjoy some time on Catalina, especially for the price. It was everything we wanted, a block from the beach, with a sweet breezy deck with great views that I could have stayed on the whole visit. Such a fun little town, so easy to get to, but *worlds away* from LA. Will be back!

Weekend Getaway
This little Gem of a house has a lot of character and showed historical charm of what felt like staying in a ship. Its snuggled up a hillside by a short walk off the main road. The outdoor front patio had a small peek of the ocean which was a nice way to relax and feel the breeze off the water. We made some nice memories here. The kitchen had enough supplies to make breakfast every morning. We spent our nights in town. The bedrooms were small being tight quarters but only there to sleep.
If you love Avalon, this is an ideal spot. Far enough away from the hustle and close enough to reach all your favorite spots. Excellent stay

Great spot!
Loved this place, close to the beach, shopping, dining. The front porch was perfect, facing east for the sunrise and shaded in the afternoon. Will definitely stay there again!
Perfect spot in Catalina, nice view of the water, quiet and centrally located to everything. Very relaxing.

A great little place for our weekend getaway with 2 Adults and 2 teenagers. It's close to the main shopping and dining area and the Vons supermarket is also a short walk. It's an older house with character, a little cramped, but expected due to being built in the early 1900s! Overall, we had a fantastic stay.
My sisters and I enjoyed staying in the Trout House. It was full of history of the island. The beds were comfortable and the kitchen was well stocked. It was in a super safe area. The porch overlooking the Avalon Cove was wonderful!!! The only reason I rated it four stars was that it needs some updating which I spoke to the property manager about.

Great place to stay by the beach
As the description says it's really a nice n cozy place just a block away from the beach. It has a good balcony with sea view and all those basic amenities you need. The place is good for 3 to max 4 people. The owner was really friendlyand made sure the whole process starting booking the house to we staying there was smooth. Best features about the house again was the small distance from beach, a balcony with sea view and a backyard bbq if you like to grill.

Lovely historic home with terrific local decorations and views. Easy walk down to beaches/shops/restaurants. Contacted property manager in advance and no difficulties with smoke smell mentioned by a prior guest. Only stayed for the weekend so did not make use of kitchen amenities but appreciated that it was well stocked for cooking. Learned from some locals that former owner was a Disney illustrator. Overall was great to stay in this unique spot!
neat old house. a short block off the main street. easy to walk everywhere. great instructions had I read them. Everything I reached out about was in the check in/out instructions or the house book.
We had a great short stay here. I had emailed the owner before arrival and he was very quick to respond. Very nice guy. The house has some cool history. Very convenient location to walk to coffee shop, arcade, and pier. Met the lady down stair. She was very friendly and offered some tips on where to eat. Overall enjoyable experience.

Awesome Place!
A perfect piece of Old Catalina! We loved our stay at this quaint cabin-style house in Catalina. Small but very cozy! Loved sleeping with all the windows open! It had all the towels for beach and showers, a nicely appointed kitchen which we used to cook all our breakfasts, a grill and a big, new TV(To our daughter's delight!)! It is steps to downtown Avalon so the location cannot be beat! Up on the hill so you get to see peek-a-boo views of the ocean!
Would definitely recommend!!

Not as advertised
This unit is a duplex not a single family stand alone home. The property manager lives onsite and smokes weed 24/7. The smoke smell permeates the vents and through the floor boards and through the open windows. The house has a constant stink of weed and incense. If any of this was disclosed I never would have rented it especially with my kids with me…. The pictures are accurate to a point. But overall the experience is one step above “glamping” and with the smells and smoke it was very unpleasant

Historical gem, needs TLC and to fix the gas leak
Built in 1904, this property has so much potential with just a little TLC. I loved that so much of the property was original but it really should be cleaned better (especially at the rate we paid). Most critical though is that the stove has a gas leak that the on site property manager said is known but they choose not to fix. As we could not find other accommodations for busy 4th of July, my husband turned off the gas for our stay...it still made me very nervous with our children staying there and we had to eat all meals out. The onsite property manager told us to just leave a window open! There was also a strong smell of non-housebroken pet. This place could be awesome- please fix the gas leak, clean up, and replace the sofa and carpeting to get rid of the very strong smell and your property will be so much better!

Safety is NOT a priority
Remember the motel with the saying, "We'll leave the light on for you."? Well don't expect any lights on with this place. We always follow the rules and respect the property where we're staying. The directions we were sent said to use the side entrance when bringing your luggage into the home. The problem is that there are absolutely NO LIGHTS on the side entrance...but there are uneven random steps! My son's dad fell while carrying his luggage and trying to navigate the unseen stairs. It's dark by 5:30 and he came in on the late ferry. I reached out to the manager via email and left a message on her landline answering machine as a cell number was not provided. It took her the whole day to get back to us and her response was that we should only use the side door when bringing in the luggage and to use the front door when coming and going. I pointed out that the fall occurred because we did exactly that, used the side entrance because we had arrived with our luggage after dark. This point seemed to be completely lost on her as she felt that the problem was solved...or that there wasn't even a problem in the 1st place! She never once apologized or asked if he was ok after the fall. There was no concern whatsoever on her part. When I have guests coming to visit my home, you can be sure that I have my porch light on and they feel welcome. I'm beyond flabbergasted that the entrance you require your guests to use with uneven randomly placed steps and no lights is an acceptable way to have your PAYING guests enter the home. I'm disappointed that I'm not able to attach the pictures I took to this review. To say it's unsafe is an understatement. Beyond the lighting issue the house itself is small and cute but nothing worth a fall on stairs that ruined the rest of our weekend. There were also no directions for the thermostat or where to find it so we spent the 1st night very cold until we found it and turned it on the next day. There is no hairdryer provided so be sure to bring your own. Also no golf cart provided. We were there for a lacrosse tournament so many people from our group had gone the Airbnb route or rented through evolve or whatever and no one else had an experience like ours. That tells me that there are many places available on the island so I would recommend staying elsewhere.

Back again! Still charming
We stayed here a year ago, and we’re back again. Charming historic home with a perfect location. If you’re into living a piece of Avalon’s history, this is your place!
Came back a year later to this charming historic home and much to our pleasure, nothing had changed. It is an exquisite historic gem, and if that’s your thing, this is your place. We will be back time and time again.
This was the perfect place for my wife and our two daughters (all adults) to stay on Catalina. The location was within easy walking distance to most of the restaurants and shops in Avalon. We spent many an hour lounging on the deck at rooftop level with the rest of the neighboring houses enjoying the cool sea breeze and listening to the tolling of the clock bell on the Chimes Tower as the minutes lazily whiled away. We had a wonderful extended weekend, and this cottage was the perfect place for us to stay. A large "thank you" to the hosts for sharing their space and putting together a wonderful retreat setting.
