The house and its views were undeniably beautiful—but unfortunately, that’s where the positives ended. The property is extremely difficult to find after 5 PM, and nearly impossible in the rain. We lost power during our stay (in sweltering heat and humidity), with no access to data, internet, or even a functioning exit gate. Trees had fallen and blocked the only road down the mountain, and to make matters worse, there was no generator on the property.Despite repeated attempts to contact Adam—the host—on multiple platforms, we received no response until VRBO got involved. Strangely, he had been responsive before the trip, which made the radio silence even more disheartening. In fact, a kind neighbor was more helpful than the host when we told him we had no food, water, or power and needed help getting down the mountain.The water also had a strong iron smell, particularly in the bathrooms. This contrasted with what was written in the host’s binder, which stated he would reach out if power was out for more than a few days. He did not.Once VRBO intervened, the host offered to send a taxi with food and supplies—but by then, the situation had become unsafe and unacceptable. We requested a full refund due to the complete lack of communication, preparedness, and safety measures.
