The grounds are beautiful. The pool area is so lovely with all the palm trees. Nice pool bar and seating. We stayed in one of the historic rooms. It was large and beautiful with old tiles. The breakfast buffet was plentiful. Staff were good.

Cool, historic hotel in a famous neighborhood in Barranquilla. Would rate it higher if the staff, specifically the bar/restaurant staff, was able to speak English. Communication was difficult.

The staff was nice The bell boy David Angelo and Jose, front desk staff; Sebastian Vilarroel, Oscar front desk manager; Navarro Security all these guy was so nice and helpful. Also the nice women with the American last name, I can’t remember her name, but she was also very nice. I commend all the staff on such good job.

The hotel was really great, clean. This was our second visit and we really love the staff and the ease of check in and out. The service from security, parking, getting a taxi directly from the hotel I would recommend it to everyone.

A beautiful old building, very well maintained both structurally and externally. Excellent location, with a lovely and pleasant pool and garden area. The hotel urgently needs renovation of the rooms and furnishings. Currently, it falls short of being a 5-star hotel. With modernization and improvements, it will surely regain that rating.

This is a beautiful colonial hotel! Stayed 2 nights and enjoyed my stay. Beautiful grounds and atmosphere! Comfortable bed and the A/C worked very well, important on the Colombian coast! The staff are excellent and you are always greeted with a smile. The breakfast too was superb with a wide variety. There is also good safe parking. The only thing I would say is that the hotel is almost 100 years old and could use some love in a few areas. The shower had some chipped tiles on the floor and the pool is great but again had missing tiles on the pool floor. However I will certainly return to Barranquilla and stay at El Prado again! Thanks for a nice stay!

For a hotel that trades on its legacy, I expected something closer to timeless — not tired. The first surprise was being charged local taxes because my American passport apparently wasn’t sufficient proof of living abroad. That conversation alone set the tone. I’m still waiting to hear back from the manager who promised to “review” the issue. The room was… fine. Not offensive, just uninspired — sparse furniture, little character, and none of the polish you’d expect at this price point. Service felt reactive rather than attentive. And the poolside food? Cold, forgettable, and wildly out of sync with the hotel’s self-image. My overall impression is that this place peaked about 20 years ago and is now relying on cosmetic updates to preserve the illusion. Unfortunately, hospitality isn’t about makeup — it’s about execution. And execution was lacking. I’ll be back for Carnaval in 2027. Just not here.

The staff is amazing. The housekeeping was on top of it. Remember this hotel was built 99 years ago. It has that old hotel charm. Some things need to be overlooked to enjoy it. The pool is amazing. The breakfast was great. The restaurant by the pool was not so good. I had a club sandwich. Not the best be it is only one meal in my life.
