Never contacted about the rental being cancelled
After driving from Wisconsin to Toms River New Jersey with the wife, teen kids and two dogs we got to the rental only to find other people living there. What a fiasco this was. The host did end up finding a replacement in Asbury Park that was nicer but the reason we booked in Toms River is because that's where my family was. We were never contacted by the host or VRBO that our rental was cancelled. The host was very apologetic and said she cancelled through VRBO but after much thought I have to wonder why she never emailed me directly and how she didn't notice that she didn't refund my payment after the cancellation. She has my money and was renting long term on the property that was originally booked by me to someone else. On top of that I emailed the host the day before to get the access code to enter the property and one was provided even though the property was already rented to someone else. I really wanted to believe this was an honest mistake on the hosts part but the fact that she didn't email me directly about her cancelling the reservation and also that she didn't happen to notice she still has the money I spent,... It's just to much to buy into. I will give her some credit for finding a replacement but I believe the only reason that was even possible is because it was a mid week rental. If we would have showed up on a weekend we might have been sleeping in our car. Not sure if the fault lies on the host or if somehow VRBO dropped the ball but it's NOT ACCEPTABLE !
