The hotel is nice and we generally enjoyed our experience but there were 2 large parties there with a band so it spoilt in my opinion the ambience of the hotel
We stayed one night at the Commune. Wow. What a project. I was stunned and taken in by the amazing architecture and design elements. The staff were really great. Everything was taken care of. Our otherwise delightful room in Chalet 1 had a strange odour of water stuck in pipes or sewerage. This bothered my travelling companion more so than I.
The walk around to the wall was beautiful, even in the rain. And the whole setting was serene and otherworldly. While others had expressed concern at the service level of the hotel, I found it to be appropriate. Everyone was quite friendly and extremely helpful. And the restaurants were better and better priced than we had anticipated.
I do so hope that they maintain the buildings and furnishings in the hotel. IT is truly a unique project, and I would recommend it to lovers of modern architecture, design and people who enjoy China and the Chinese experience.
It's a beautiful hotel, great location on the mountains and with access to a private section of the great wall. Some areas need a bit more upkeep, but in general its a great place. Great for designers/architects, every house is designed by renowned architects.
Stunning Architecture and Private access to wall, perfect Beijing get away
The buildings at the Commune are amazing. Stunning, sleek and airy architecture complimented with perfect lighting and top notch service.Being the only ones walking along the wall is a memorable experience. For the high standards of rooms and service the price is more than worth it. An excellent weekend away escaping the hustle and bustle of Beijing. The hotel has a pool, a few choice places for dining, a gorgeous yet a bit pricey spa, and a kid's play centre. Waking up to overlooking the wall was an absolute highlight of the whole China trip.
My booking was lost, but hotel solved it by giving a room till they solved the problem. It took over an hour to check in.
Restaurant is great, staff did their best. Beijing duck and pleasant wines for an ok budget. House atmo was very pleasant, corridor in cellar to room had unpleasant smell.
Pools had not opened. Kids club was still closed, this I found out locally. No mentioning by booking.
This is one of the first hotels on walking distance I found to visit the wall.
I give it a second chance.
