The property exceeded our expectations. From the charm of the home, its beautiful views from the balcony, and the personal touches like the welcome basket and bottle of wine. While our French was lacking, Martine was very accommodating, friendly, and so helpful. Great restaurants and shoppes nearby. We left Beynac with hopes of returning someday, such a wonderful experience.

A charming village and very special property
We (two couples) absolutely loved our time at Mont Joie. The house is well set up and Martine and Andrea were very helpful. The supplied guide was an excellent source of info. Beynac is a great base to explore the Dordogne. We enjoyed visiting Château de Baynac, Gouffre de Padirac, Lascaux and Rocamadour. We spent 4 nights at Mount Joie and would have loved to spend even more time in the Dordogne, enjoying Mont Joie and Beynac. A highlight was having our apéritif on the balcony, taking in the beautiful Autumn view, each afternoon. Beynac and Mont Joie are very special, thank you for a wonderful stay.

our recent stay
There is no question that the outstanding aspect of the property is the view from the balcony-truly exceptional. We believe that the description of the property should indicate that it is spread over 5 levels and that the path to the "apex"/door is very steep after the first 60mtrs and very demanding for those with heavy luggage and shopping.

Perfect Mix of Medieval & Modern - Whole Family Enjoyed
Mont Joie is a special experience. Of course, the views are amazing from all three levels. Really, nothing compares to throwing open the windows of the dining room and watching the boats float by with castles and countryside stretching in all directions. The whole house beautifully combines the medieval feel of Beynac with modern amenities like an excellently stocked kitchen and awesome shower in the main bedroom. Of course, the kids loved the pool. It’s just big enough to cool off & have fun. We found the daily hike up & down the hill helped balance all the treats from the neighborhood boulangerie. We were well-prepared by the host’s guide provided in advance -- one of the most thorough I’ve ever seen and incredibly helpful. The communication with owner & onsite hosts was excellent throughout. Martine was a cheerful, helpful welcome after 17+ hours of travel and she set us up with dinner at La Petite Tonelle right down the hill. It was amazing! The meat dishes were exceptional and I could have eaten the vegetarian menu every day. We had good experiences at all the town restaurants & cute shops. We loved meandering the picturesque paths in the morning or dusk while also being close to other area sites & convenient to Sarlat for Sunday groceries when needed.

Great house with beautiful views
The house has great panoramic views during anytime of the day - including beautiful sunrises and sunsets. It is very well equipped and maintained. The welcome basket was an added bonus. Andrea and Martine were very accommodating in our arrival and departure. We highly recommend Villa Mont Jolie if you are looking for a quiet stay in a beautiful village.

Story Book Setting
It is hard to imagine a more beautiful place from the moment you turn off the main road into the village of Beynac. The walk up to the Chateau is a series of postcard picture opportunities of both the stone buildings and the spectacular views. We were very fortunate to be staying in the Mont Joie, which is a beautiful stone house with a view over the valley which almost doesn’t seem real. From this base there are many sites and activities that are easily accessible. Our recommended activities included taking a shuttle from Beynac to Vitrac and canoeing back to Beynac down river with a sop at La Roc Gageac for lunch and a walk through the beautiful village and gardens. Also highly recommended is an evening hot air balloon ride that can also be accessed from a shuttle at the Beynac village parking lot. Saturdays it is also highly recommended to go to the market in Sarlat la Caneda. Anther day excursion could be a drive ti Padirac to experience the caves and continue to the spectacular Rocamadour. Park at Hospitalet and take the pathway down to the touristy village and then take the hike up the former pilgrimage past the church of the black Madonna.

Medieval Luxury!
Astoundingly beautiful 500+ year-old home on the way up to Beynac Castle, with views of four other Castles from the two terraces and living room. The pictures are accurate; this place really is magical!

Perfect location and house
There is nothing that I would improve on, this is a wonderful vacation rental. Sitting on the balcony on the -1 floor, with the view of the river and the chateaux, is a vacation all by itself. Be prepared to do some walking up steep streets to get to/from the house. Good exercise. Martine is an attentive and helpful caretaker, who thought of everything, and keeps the house in perfect shape.

We started planning our return as soon as we arrived!
The view is just as amazing as the pictures. Mont Joie is comfortable and relaxing for a family, with everything you need along with everything you could want for a comfortable and relaxing vacation. We were just as excited to come back in the evenings for tea and wine on the porch as we were to see all the amazing sights around Beynac. There is no shortage of castles and caves within a short drive, and Beynac castle itself is just up the hill. This is the perfect location from which to explore the Dordogne region. Thank you so much for your warm hospitality, and sharing your home. Martine in particular was wonderfully warm and welcoming. She has a gift for hospitality, and we appreciated her smiles and cheerful good wishes, which didn't need translation.
