Edgewood Mansion - Big Bear

We used the Edgewood Mansion for our family vacation at Big Bear. The house easily accommodated 8 adults and 8 children. While the home had a detached guesthouse we two additional bedrooms, we opted to have everyone sleep in the main house. We loved all the amenities the house had to offer (several family rooms, game room, gym, large hot tub, dining room and spacious kitchen). Feeding the family three times per day with the chef's kitchen was a snap. The house has ample counter space, cooktops, refrigerator/ freezer and appliances. We would rent the mansion again. Kids had fun inside and outside.

Not what I had hoped

We were there on a pretty hot weekend. This house is advertised to have A/C, but it was not working, nor had it been for years, apparently. The management company came out to assess; there was little they could do with a system that was in such disrepair it would require a complete overhaul. We tried to open windows, but many of the mechanisms were broken, and many windows didn't have screens. We were so desperate for cool air at night we just put up with the mosquitos. Pretty lousy for such a high priced rental! Other than that, it's a weird set up (4 bedrooms on the top floor but only 2 bathrooms, including the private one in the master). It was a fun place to explore, but in desperate need of maintenance both inside and out. The kitchen is well-stocked with cooking utensils and appliances, which I wish we had known before we packed. This would probably be a really fun rental in cooler weather, but I'm not sure I can recommend it.

Edgwood Mansion

I have not given the property a review, as I wanted to talk with someone first. We arrived and the stove was not working, had a tech come out and he could not fix all of the stove. We had a chef arriving that night and it prolonged our dinner and he had to use a stove he had in his car. We had a strong gas smell from a burner that we could not turn off per the maintenance tech. Internet was not working. The house had staines all over on carpet, broken blinds, no window coverings in some of the bedrooms, Door handle fell off in Master and someone was locked in room. couldn't open several windows as there were no cranks to open then with or broken cranks. Furniture in dining room felt like it was going to break and same with couch in living room. When we pulled up there was two old real estate signs leaning on fence and ground. Outside of spa, there was a ton of empty paint cans, ladders and tarps. Stickers on new doors with no window coverings for privacy. Shower in guest house, did not work. For such an expensive week and rental we were not impressed with the house or surroundings. We would greatly appreciate a refund, as the home did not warrant such a fee!!!! We left the house exactly how we found it. Please forward this onto the owner. If he is going to continue to charge this amount of money the home should be pristine or tenants should be notified of the current condition of the home and that it is currently under construction. Please contact me.
