"The Montvale was/is a nice find. It’s at the edge of downtown, on a quiet street. Recently renovated, the quasi-Victorian colors can skew a bit pink, but stepping out of the elevator into the lovely atrium is a treat. There are comfortable seats to lounge in with friends and soak up the mellow atmosphere.
The staff are friendly and happy to help: we had a couple of packages delivered there, and they were waiting for us at check in.
The car park is not big enough, and is first come, first park. That said, legal street parking is easy, and pretty cheap.
We brought our old greyhound and had to sign a very stern document (and pay a fee) to get her in, but after that there was no fuss. Grass is at a premium in the town center - but the waterfront park and trail is close, and lovely. "
"This hotel is easily the most beautiful I have ever visited. The attention to detail in every square inch of this hotel is breathtaking. There is so much history throughout the entire building. My daughters and I started out in the Peacock room. The bartender was so kind even though he was getting ready to close up. There was still time for a last call. We had a delicious drink and we’re admiring the most beautiful ceiling I’ve ever seen. A back lit stained glass peacock, covered the entire ceiling. After that, we took our time looking around the hotel. Photos and artifacts from the original hotel. Taking in the beautiful architecture and lighting. We wandered everywhere that was accessible to us taking photos as we went. We were eventually approached by very friendly security member. We were overjoyed when asked if we would like a tour! She showed us into some of the locked rooms. We saw the ballrooms. The room Amelia Earhart stayed in. We even saw the famous circus room. We felt so lucky to see and learn the history of the hotel. Privileged, to view so many treasures the artists who created this masterpiece of a building have hidden in their work. We would have never gotten to see all of these pieces of history without her kindness. This was hands-down the best visit to any hotel I have ever been on. I will never forget my time here. It is a beautiful place with a staff that is exceptional. "
