We enjoyed a pleasant stay and thoroughly enjoyed the staff! The room was huge and included a large balcony. The showers were great with steady hot water pressure. Food was a short walk (we chose Nando’s). Our shuttle arrived on time for the airport and everything worked seamlessly.

I had an outstanding experience at this hotel. The level of care and support provided by the staff was truly exceptional—they went above and beyond to ensure that our stay was perfect in every way. The amenities were excellent, with reliable 24/7 Wi-Fi, constant hot water, and a TV with a wide variety of shows. Everything was well-maintained and added to the overall comfort of our stay. Rooms are cleaned every day or whenever you need them cleaned. I would definitely stay here again and highly recommend this hotel to my relatives and anyone looking for a comfortable, welcoming place to stay.

The location is in the very centre of Bulawayo, with walking distance to both the Art Gallery (10 min) and The Natural History Museum (15 min). There are plenty of fast-food and restaurant options within minutes by foot from the hotel. Also, very easy to arrange pick-up/drop-off at the hotel as all tour operators doing excursions to Khami ruins, Great Zimbabwe ruins and Matobo NP know it. The Selborne Hotel is clean, neat and I recommend it. Excellent location and very helpful staff. Some details in my room would need an update, but all in all a really pleasant stay!

1) Airport transfer - the vehicle sent was shocking and was stopped at a roadblock and was due to be fined. The condition of the car was appalling. Thankfully the hotel did not charge me for those trips in full. 2) the hotel says "restaurant" but that's only on demand and if you order in advance 3) hotel is undergoing an upgrade so condition is not great 4) my room was not made up, no new towels, tea/coffee etc 5) wifi password expired at midnight, so any early morning meetings/emails etc would be missed

Hotel ist sehr zentral in der Stadt gelegen. Die Zimmer sind schön und gross. Das Personal ist sehr hilfsbereit. Leider sind die in der Werbung beschriebenen zwei Restaurants, die Bar und auch die Poolbar nicht in Betrieb. Für die Bar muss das Hotel verlassen werden und kann der Betrieb nebenan, falls geöffnet, besucht werden. Ärgerlich für die Gäste und auch schade für das nette Team im Hotel. Während den 5 Tagen im Hotel fand zusätzlich ein Kongress statt, so dass leider auch der Pool nicht benutzt werden konnte. Das Hotel sollte so was den Gästen vorher mitteilen.

This hotel has seen better days and is a shadow of its former self. There was a problem with our reservation which meant we were given poor rooms with no air con and missing bulbs, linen, and varying levels of amenities (showers, water, etc). We were moved after a night but the rooms don’t match the website photos. One of the bathrooms was unusable due the smell and heat. The hotel is good for location in the city centre, and the garden and pool are pleasant but feel tired and only given basic maintenance)do not believe the pool photo on the website! The main redeeming feature is the staff and how hard a couple of them worked to make our stay better; their enthusiasm was undermined by the limitations of the hotel to supply things like adequate bedding or simple things like light bulbs. Stay here for very basic amenities and the locations but not for a really comfortable stay.

First of all, if this hotel has a star, it is the biggest star – Christina at the reception. If I evaluate the hotel on different parameters: 1. In terms of price-performance, it is a very good hotel. 2. The rooms have been made as nice as possible, given the materials available – 6/10. 3. They could have used towels that look whiter and more vibrant. 4. Since I am in the corner room at the end of the building, it is very difficult to balance the hot and cold water. But now I will tell you the most important part. Apart from the physical characteristics of this hotel – which is in a very old building – our experience of staying here has been wonderful. The staff is the most helpful and warm-hearted team I have ever seen. They take care of you directly at every moment, and they do not do this because they work in the service industry – they do it genuinely from the heart. Thank them a hundred times for me. I wrote my negative notes above so that you do not experience disappointment when setting your expectations. Would I go again? Absolutely, yes. If the same team were at another hotel, would I go? Absolutely – I would follow this team. Also, as a bonus, there is a very nice pub downstairs. Do not forget to go there and have a beer for me.

General comment

Selborne Hotel is home away from home. Christine and team give the place a warm touch. The rooms are top notch and the Wi-Fi is excellent. However, the outside and furniture reception area look ‘tired’ and outdated. It hardly reflects the high standard of decor and modern upgrades characteristic of the rooms.

Amazing colonial style hotel with very helpful staff, great restaurant, beautiful garden and convenient parking. Large balcony facing the street but not noisy. Special thanks to MacDonald who helped me find fuel. He was very helpful and humble. Overall great stay.
