This house is so well designed! Comfortable, well equipped. Most of the area has no cellphone signal. The Wi-Fi in the house is great and we used wifi calling. The views are to die for. The trees in the yard are majestic.

Very quiet and peacefulI found staying at the highlans inn very distrutive with cleaning people and plumbers hanging around talking loud and gathering all day. If you just want to be right on the ocean and feel safe and quiet this was perfect

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: Incredible location on the ocean. A truly unique house from the '70s with some modern upgrades. Generally very comfortable for a family with a few caveats. The open nature of the house means that noise and light travel everywhere, so people need to be considerate at night. The issue with hot water is a known problem and continues to persist. We had no hot water in the kitchen, despite someone from the management company coming out to explain the system. One side of the gate was non-operational, but the management company explained how to work around it.The water situation was a bit annoying, as others have had similar issues. For the rental fee charged, there should be no drama with hot water. Otherwise, the place is magical and we would stay there again.

Off of the back porch, you can go down the steps all the way to the water! Inside, it's cute - the loft bedroom has wonderful sea views. Would be perfect for several friends, two couples, probably not children (too many steps, open areas wouldn't be quiet). No problems staying here and nothing really missing except that the fireplace isn't functional. Absolutely loved the steam shower!

Amazing Retreat!

This was absolutely what we needed for our mother daughter trip! The place was clean, the windows were clean, so we had perfect views. The steam shower after hiking all day was a blessing. There were otters every morning and evening swimming in the ocean right behind the house. The sound of the waves crashing against the rocks lulled us to sleep perfectly. The house is period specific and we loved that. It adds to the charm. Kitchen was fully equipped. Nice little notes for how to use TV and WiFi. Would absolutely book again! Thank you!

Wonderful location - odd booking experience

Pros-lovely locationcute housecomfy bedsLOVE the steam showerLove that it's easy to park with a nice yard in the frontLove the staircase to the oceanGreat location & wonderful neighborhoodCons-VRBO booked, then contacted by Sanctuary (another agency) for more contracts, charges, etc. really confusing & cost was higher than expectedLate check in Early check out (10am)Dirty windows (really important when your a destination)Front gate didn't work, no cell reception to call anyoneKitchen is badly in need of update - needs functional featuresThis is a lovely house in a great location. At this price (amounts to 1500 per night) things need to be clean and functional. The deck should have proper furniture since it's the star of the show. Our early checkout (10am) left us feeling rushed, especially since a group of technicians descended upon us at 9:50am as we were packing our car. With a little effort, this could be a fantastic experience.

Family Xmas trip

Hard to explain how amazing this house is. The views are second to none. The uniqueness of the house layout has a great vibe. We were also greeted with snacks and a great bottle of wine as well as on Christmas Eve the management company dropped off a a very nice gift of different chocolate treats. We’ve stayed at many house rentals over the years but this house was just magical due to its location. I would recommend this rental to anyone wanting to disconnect and enjoy nature for all its greatness.

If you are here as a 'couple's retreat' despite having multiple very interestingly designed bedrooms, you want to only have the two of you staying there. Lets just say that the acoustics would be awkward. That being said, it is a unique home with a bit of 'outside inside' architectural flair. If you are in good shape, great place. If you have mobility issues, this is not the place-lots of stairs, uneven stones on said stairs which could knock older people over. We loved it. In 30 years, maybe not so much.

Amazing Trip

Loved the location and view. Bedrooms and bathrooms upstairs were updated. Kitchen is dated and may be an issue for extended stays. We actually liked the decor and the vibe of the house. Recommend a working fireplace indoors and outdoors.

You are paying for location. The house itself is disappointing. It has 2 nice bathrooms. The rest of the house is dated and needs renovation. If not for location it would be 2-3 stars.

Unparalleled views - okay house

Interesting & impressive house with killer views

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: THE WAVES is one of the most interesting and impressive houses I've ever seen. Its architecture is gorgeous and unorthodox in the most stylish ways. The intangible yet powerful "vibe" of beauty and personality saturates the entire property, providing functionality, awe and comfort. The building is a 10 out of 10, but the real superstar feature is THE VIEW. Floor to ceiling windows allow you to live in the impossibly cool scenery of the ocean. You get your own private stairway to a secluded bench looking down on the water. Sunsets were unreal and night time gave clear views of the Milky Way galaxy. Though this house was near the downtowns of Monterey and Carmel, we felt like this house trumped those otherwise great travel destinations - we liked sitting in the house more than visiting the tourist spots. The agency managing this house was friendly, easy and attentive. A great experience.

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: The team at Sanctuary Rentals were very easy to work with and communication was great. The house itself sits on an amazing property right on the ocean with beautiful views. It's a funky, weird, and very open floor plan with floor to ceiling glass overlooking the water. If you're a couple or maybe traveling with one other couple then this would work for you but if you have a large family with kids then this would be a challenging home as every room is open like a giant loft and you can hear everything. The house is dated in a lot of ways and the kitchen is workable (but not great) while the two upstairs baths have been beautifully renovated. The bedding, linens, and towels were all very good and the small office/library was perfect for someone working remotely. Caution in that Verizon cell service DOES NOT work at all but AT&T does - we knew this going into the rental because the Sanctuary team were open and honest with us so we brought some AT&T hotspots with us to make sure we could use wi-fi calling on our Verizon phones while not in range of the houses wi-fi. Again, the Sanctuary team was very open and honest with us prior to the stay letting us know the plusses and challenges so we were not surprised. The only negative was that the fireplace did not work despite attempts by the Sanctuary team to fix it - they tried their best but the issue was something major that could not be quickly remedied. Overall, I would definitely work with the Sanctuary team again for this or other properties. If you manage your expectations and know what you're getting into then this property is a real gem simply because of how beautiful the property is and the service provided by Sanctuary. If you're looking for the Ritz and everything being pristine and perfect or if you're a big family with kids then you should probably look at other properties.

Disappointing

Rating Details: The property manager was adequately helpful. The vacation rental was somewhat dirty. I was very happy with the location. I was somewhat dissatisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I do not recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: the house itself is stunning and in a great location.2 of the 3 bedrooms are open plan so noise travels pretty easily and there are floor to ceiling windows with no blinds or curtains so it’s very light early in the mornings. house wasn’t very clean on arrival - basic things were clean like bathroom / kitchen, but it feels like it needs a deep clean - there were multiple cobwebs and dead spiders / flies throughout the property as well as thick dust in places. the downstairs tub isn’t usable, which we were not aware of, and also had dead insects in it.there is NO phone signal at all unless you’re on a specific network, which wasn’t made aware to us before arrival.the WiFi didn’t work at all which was a bit of a nightmare for the first few days until we were lent some hotspots, which weren’t ideal.overall customer service and stay, vs the cost of the property and it’s condition and usability when we got there are worlds apart.I’d expect this from a low budget property, but not from somewhere of this caliber.lastly - sanctuary will charge you excessively for electric and take it off your security deposit.
