I was pretty pumped to come across this gem! This is pink lady's slipper (Cypripedium acaule), one of 40 species of wild orchids found in Ohio. (Only 39 or so more left for me to encounter!) The flower of pink lady's slipper is pollinated by bees, which enter the pouch and can only exit by brushing against structures that remove pollen from a previous flower. Then the bee picks up new pollen on its way out.
