We arrived full of excitement to experience this incredible castle, one of the oldest in Europe, and it truly is magnificent in all its grandeur. The architecture, history, and setting are breathtaking. Our room was lovely in appearance, though it lacked some basic comforts, no water, no coffee maker, and the mattress felt as though it had been there since the castle’s earliest days.
Breakfast, however, was a highlight. Enjoying a beautifully prepared spread in one of the castle’s elegant rooms, with excellent service, made for a memorable morning.
What left us a little disappointed was that, even as hotel guests, we had to pay extra to use the pools, sauna, steam room, and baths. For the price of staying in the castle, we expected spa access to be included.
My advice: if you want the full experience, consider booking a day at the spa instead. You’ll still enjoy access to the castle, the beautiful grounds, and the luxury of the facilities—all without the extra costs.
