Hotel was only ok. Would not stay there alone
No reason to even go to or stay in Cooke City. WAY too remote. Cell phones do not work at all. Was able to get wifi on my iphone to email our kids back home & give them hotel phone. Room was ok and staff at front desk were friendly but room was nothing special at all. Was not dirty but location was so remote it was a bit scary. Only 2 resteraunts open after 6 pm. Nothing else in town open. Room was stuffy & no A/C. only a ceiling fan that almost fell off ceiling when we turned it on. thermostat was only for heat.

Northeast Entrance to Yellowstone
Better alternative than camping! The managers of the hotel are quite knowledgeable about the area, friendly & easy going. Not a 4-star hotel by any means, but comfortable. We plan on going back this year. There really aren't a lot of amenities nearby, but spectacular Yellowstone area close to where the wolves are. The Beartooth Pass is just up from the hotel, another great way to get away from the city!
We have stayed at this hotel before and were pleased, but this time was just awful. It did not help that nothing in town was open. We got in about 7 pm - checked in - and found out that we could not get dinner or any food anywhere - everything was closed. No options. Then we found that they had put us in a handicapped room. Not really a problem, but not at all what we were expecting. We were the first room down from the lobby area, where there was a garbage can 3/4 full that smelled about a week old. The broadband internet advertised was slow downloading and about dial-up speed uploading. Breakfast was late and stale - and the garbage was still there. Easily the worst overall experience I have had at a hotel in several years.

Most Luxurious Hotel in Cooke City
Cooke City is a small town (consisting of 2 streets) that really gives you the feeling of an old gold mining town (in a good way!) There are very limited hotel accomodations, and the Super 8 seemed to be the most recently updated, clean and friendly. We only stayed for one night so I can't give feedback about many services, but our experience was great. There are a few restaurants in town with a good menu selection. Definitely worth a visit.
I liked this hotel for several reasons. It was nice and clean and comfortable. The people at the desk were very friendly and helpful. The location was great. It was only 1 to 2 miles away from the NE entrance to Yellowstone. Breakfast was adequate. About the only draw back would be that the guest dryer was broken and couldn't be used. Also parking could be a problem. I would stay here again. When we first got to the hotel, there was a moose on the hill behind the hotel. Was very nice. :)
Nice hotel, except we were given room 203 - next to the hotel heating system. We did not notice the noise at first because we had the TV on, but when we turned it off and tried to sleep - it felt like sleeping in a factory - the entire wall vibrated like crazy - if you want to stay here be sure not to stay in room 203!
