Located in one of the most desirable locations on the Outer Banks " The New Caped Coral" (WH-32), is an Oceanfront house with incredible views everywhere you look! This home is situated in the middle of the block. What this means for you as a renter - a near private beach! Being equal distance from either public beach access assures that you will have plenty of space in front of your house to relax and enjoy the beach. The Whalehead beach in Corolla is known for its expansive beaches with a gentle slope into the water. This house features the best of the beach with the private beach access, great dune top deck, lots of ocean side decking and comfortable seating at the house. Don't wait to book this house - weeks will go fast! Beyond its perfect location, the house is very large with plenty of room for your family to have a fabulous vacation! Each level features a sitting area or Den w/ flat screen TV, the ground floor also has a HUGE rec. room!

New for 2026: Pool heat!! Offered between 3/28- 10/31. $400 plus tax.

Top Level: Expansive oceanside decks with plenty of seating. Covered sunset deck. Large kitchen with stainless steel appliances. Kitchen bar w/ (4) bar stools. Oceanfront dining area (10), Oceanfront living room w/ new 60" flat screen TV/DVD/Blue Ray player, breakfast nook (4), Oceanfront Queen Master w/ flat screen TV, Deck access, Queen Master Bedroom w/ flat screen TV.

Mid-Level: The mid-level also features an oceanfront deck that expands the width of the house with a hot tub (seats 6). Oceanfront Den w/ TV, King room w/ TV, deck access and great views, 2 full hall baths, Bunk Room (2 Bunk Sets), Oceanfront Queen Master Bedroom w/ deck access and views, Queen master bedroom. Laundry.

Ground Level: Den w/ TV, large rec. room w/ table, pool table, foosball, TV, full size fridge, room with 2 twin beds shares full bath with hall.

Extras: Private pool (10x23) 2025 Pool Dates: 3/29/25-10/24/25, 2026 Pool Dates 3/28/2026 - 10/23/2026. Private hot tub (6), 2 laundry rooms, 6 TVs, 1 DVD/Blue Ray, basketball, foosball table, gas grill, Wireless Internet, private beach access, private dune deck. Saturday turn-over. Pet Friendly w/$210 pet fee (2 dogs max). Bed linens provided, beds made prior to arrival, bath towels included. No smoking.

Cancellations: If, after your initial payment, you need to cancel your reservation, every attempt will be made to re-rent the property. All notices of cancellation must be in writing. If the property is re- rented at full price, you will receive a full refund of moneys paid, less a $150 cancellation fee, travel insurance premium (if purchased) and all applicable taxes. If the property is able to be re-rented, but at a discounted rate from what was paid, you will be refunded your rental payment, less the difference in the rental rate and the $150 cancellation fee. If the property is not able to be re-rented, you will forfeit all moneys paid to this reservation.

Working with the property manager was wonderful. They were quick to respond to my questions and special needs.The property lies between two public access beach spots so we had plenty of beach to ourselves with our private walkway. Wonderful. We will come here again

Outstanding stay

We booked a last minute stay and could not be happier with our visit. The house was perfect for our group. The house was ready about 2 hours early but were still about 90 minutes away. Pros: oceanfront, fully stocked kitchen, pool and hot tub were ready to go and serviced mid-week, lots of beach chairs and gear (which the ad did not list), plenty of space for a big group.Cons: VRBO charged an extra fee that I was not made aware of upfront; no garbage disposal, cold water knob in one shower didn't function but we just used a different shower, extra propane tank was non-usable but we ended up not needing it.I would book this house for the same week next year right now if we could get the same rate.

Excellent family reunion site

This property had everything we were looking for & did not disappoint. Enough bedrooms and bathrooms for all family units to have their own space, a table big enough to seat all of us for meals, comfortable common areas for lounging, multiple decks with fabulous views, a pool, & a beautiful private beach. The entire family was unanimous in wanting to stay here again.

The house was amazing and perfect location. Beach in front was all ours as it is situated in the middle between public access and no one came down this far either way. The beds were comfortable and room for all of us to be together and have private space. Kitchen was well equipped. Don’t worry about renting beach chairs or beach toys as there are plenty on site. We had brought beach gear and never unpacked ours as it had everything we could need for 6 adults and 3 kids ages 10-14. The game room on main floor was great for hanging out at night together. This is within walking distance to restaurants and shopping. Short drive to the 4X4 beach to look for wild horses, of which we saw many! We enjoyed the balcony’s, hot tub and pool at night. Great family location will definitely be back. Thank you for such a lovely place to stay!

NYE in the OBX

Leslie and Cora were so pleasant to work with. Super informative and communicative. The booking process was seamless and easy. Check in could not have been any simpler. The house is in a fantastic location. It is spacious and just as described in the listing. We had a perfect time ringing in 2025 at The Caped Coral. My one minor complaint is that a lot of the dishes weren’t clean. But we’ve stayed at many houses in OBX and Topsail over multiple decades and it wasn’t the worst we’ve encountered. Overall, if you need a 7 BR house on the beach that legitimately sleeps 16 (no one has to draw the short straw and sleep on a pullout sofa) talk to Leslie and Cora and ask for The Caped Coral.

Excellent House and Amenities on Whalehead Beach

The house was large and had accommodations and bathrooms for hosting a good sized party. We went in the off season and were grateful to have early check in and the hot tub up and running per our request. Easy check in and good communication throughout the process. Would recommend to those wanting to stay on the Outer Banks.

Sunny beach days

Beautiful beach-not as crowded as it is near public access. Lots of shells and fun chasing crabs at night. Great pool! Bathroom to bedroom ratio was awesome. Our concerns were for the price, kitchen & bathrooms should be well cleaned. Bathrooms dusty with hair & purple bathroom long black hair found in shower & on wall beside toilet/constant shower dripping. Kitchen drawers with utensils not clean and small black ants crawling on kitchen counter. Older property with small repairs that need done-basement bedroom door broken/no door knob, screen on 2nd floor off track(sitting beside door), ice maker did not dispense, sink sprayer sticking w/faucet base loose, 3rd floor rear bedroom shower did not drain, loose handrail 3rd floor deck w/ loose floorboards, raised nails on beach access deck. Overall sunny fun days at beach w/ family & great food at local restaurants.

Fun beach home for large gathering

We had a delightful extended family gathering in this home over Thanksgiving week, with 15 of us comfortably fitting in this home. Great location on a gorgeous stretch of OBX beach. Fun hot tub. A minor detraction was that the house was not particularly well supplied with certain kitchen items (forks, food containers, bowls). Would happily return though.

Everything you could need in the perfect location!

We kept watching all the people staying in the houses across the street lugging all their beach gear down the street everyday to the periodic beach access points and were so glad we had our own private access to the beach! Also, our part of the beach was less crowded the areas by the public access points which was nice. The pool and the hot tub were also nice to use when a break from the ocean was needed. Although the house was a little outdated on the inside, we didn’t spend too much time inside! Even if we had to there was plenty of space for everyone to spread out!

Perfect family getaway

We had a magical week! The photos in the listing are accurate with one exception: as previous reviewers noted, the property is closer to the beach than it looks, which was a bonus! We had two 75 year-olds who had no problem getting up and down the steps to the beach. Our beach area felt very private. The pool was clean and a perfect temperature. We had five young children ages 3-8 swimming in the pool + sometimes adults and there was plenty of room. The house itself felt very secure and safe. It is a bit weathered, as the photos show, and is decorated like a typical beach house (just the basics - not luxurious like some of the neighboring properties). This was fine for our group with so many little kids tracking sand in and out. The A/C worked great, with thermostats to adjust the temp by floor. When we arrived there was no vacuum or hangers. We told the management company, who promptly dropped some off the next day. My only criticisms of the property are 1) the beds were uncomfortable and VERY loud and 2) we were responsible for purchasing EVERYthing we needed during our stay. There is no hand soap, dish soap, laundry detergent or cleaning products of any kind. We purchased Swiffer Sweeper Wet Pads and 409 spray for our stay. There are only a few wine glasses and no cocktail glasses. Overall, we had a very pleasant stay. The ocean views are breathtaking and the location can't be beat!

The house fit our needs perfectly. We had a lovely trip with our kids and grands. a few of the mattresses need replaced the freezer would look like it was closed, but it wasn't closed completely. maybe the seal is getting bad. we did lose some of our food because of it.

Incredible stay!

We had a group of 10 adults and 7 children stay in this home, and our stay was perfect. The home location and access to the beach was something I’ll always look for when renting again. It was like we had a private beach and not having to lug things anywhere but up to the deck each night can’t be beat. The pool was a perfect spot for when you didn’t make it the 50 steps to the beach too! We didn’t really use the game room on the first level but it was perfectly equipped and well maintained. There is also a closet with plenty of beach and pool gear there to use - even though we brought our own. Each room having its own bathroom was another feature that was pretty great with such a large group. The house itself might not be the biggest or the newest on the block but it was absolutely perfect for our group and we couldn’t have asked for a better week together!! Thank you for a wonderful stay.

40 year old house and it shows

The ONLY things in the house that don’t need updating are the appliances. All the furniture is not only old, most of it is musty smelling. Most of us adults went out and bought pillows as soon as we got there. The ones on the beds smelled very bad and we were afraid to use them. The bedding is nothing but an old bedspread like you would find in a cheap hotel and some sheets. The house was very poorly cleaned upon our arrival, which I did report to the management company. However, the house just really shows its age. The staircases are narrow and steep) not recommended for anyone elderly) and the carpet on them looks like it hasn’t been cleaned in years. The TVs they advertise are all antiquated with canoes running all over the place. Yes there is a game room, but again, everything is in poor shape. We purchased some WD 40 to get the foosball table working properly. I could go on, but I think I have painted a pretty good picture. I cannot understand the higher ratings here unless they are from people who haven’t stayed at other beachfront homes or VRBOs in this price range.

Perfect for our Family

The location and house was perfect for our family. We had such a great time. I had thought we would use the game room however being that close to the ocean, we spent our time exploring the beach, city and enjoyed meals together in dining area. The space was great when we needed to spread out and have down time. Lots of beach items to use. Beautiful and perfect location in the middle of the public access to beaches so it was not over crowded. Watching the sunrise from bed was amazing. Prior to arrival, the hosts were extremely fast at responding to our questions.
