Lord of the Rings country! From the rocky outcrop of Mount Sunday (used as the location of Edoras - home of the Rohan) there's a 360-degree view of the Southern Alps.
This was a highlight of our trip to New Zealand and is an easy walk from the Mount Sunday car park. The "Mount" itself is more of a hill really so don't be put off! Access is via a long, gravel track off State Highway 72 at Mount Somers (signposted Mt Potts).
Whether you're a LOTR fan or not, if you enjoy raw, spectacular scenery you shouldn't miss it.

“We were lucky enough to book this place last minute and so glad we did - it was amazing. Friendly hosts who provided a wonderful welcome basket of milk, juice, yoghurt, biscuits, crisps granola and bread which was a really thoughtful touch. “Very spacious with all the amenities we required for our group although a BBQ would have been added value, the location is ideal and not far from the town centre. Listing price could be more clearer on additional people costs as listing price reflects 6 people even though it’s advertised to sleep up to 16, it is easy to miss this.Communication is great, very understanding & helpful with the owners & team.Overall and enjoyable stay thank you”

"Everything is above the motel standard. They even provide wine glasses & heated towel rack. Very sweet of them to give you a small bottle of milk when check in, so that you can make tea / coffee immediately. It would be perfect if they’ve a small shelf inside the shower to put soap ! Bath gel."
