I am writing to express my deepest disappointment regarding a recent experience I had at TownePlace Suites by Marriott Detroit Canton. I had made a reservation for a room at the TownePlace Suites by Marriott Detroit Canton for July 26 - July 27 due to losing power in my home as a result of a thunderstorm. I was eagerly looking forward to my stay as advertised upon booking with my 3 young children. Unfortunately, upon arriving at the hotel, I was informed that there was a power outage on the property defeating the purpose of my initial booking resulting in the inability to check into my room. This was extremely frustrating, as I had made the reservation in advance and had not been notified about any potential disruptions. What compounded the situation further was the treatment I received from a staff member named Joseph. Despite my valid concerns and frustrations, Joseph was dismissive and refused to provide me with his last name when asked as well as provided me with the incorrect contact information of the General Manager. He provided me with the business card from an entirely different hotel. This lack of professionalism, lack of integrity and transparency only served to heighten my dissatisfaction with the situation. Adding to the inconvenience, the location of the hotel required me to drive over 40 minutes in adverse driving conditions. Never again.

While your misrepresentation of the event that took place leading to your eviction is disheartening it is not out of character and it fit right in with the behavior you displayed upon arrival to our wonderful establishment.

Dirty and rundown
For being a fairly new hotel the room was dirty and the sheets were worn and thin. Some members of guest services were rude and barely spoke English. They charged us for high speed internet when we only signed in for free internet. Didn’t clean room our or even exchange towels during our 3 nights stay. I don’t recommend this hotel.

Bathroom was off... it was like someone has just used the toilet when we arrived. There are streaks of urine in the toilet bowl. Saw some dirt on the walls of the bathroom, it was like accumulated dust hanging, lacking of towels supplies and bath supplies. We got one of their biggest suite 2bedrooms , 5 of us are staying, but the supplies are very poor. YES WE CAN REQUEST , we have to walk to the front desk and asked. Still , isnt it hasstle to our part ? They have good guest relations, BUT rooms are very poor when it comes to cleanliness and supplies

Check-in was unbelievably slow due to the person at the front desk now knowing how to enter card information into their system. As that was going on, there was a (possibly drunk) guy in the lobby being confrontational and harassing other guests—the hotel staff failed to intervene. A final note: very, very thin walls. Would not recommend this place.

Overall great hotel!
The hotel is sharp and clean. I did have a few needs that I didn’t have time to address. There was no extra toilet paper and I didn’t realize it till my last bathroom visit when I had to grab the tissues to finish up. There was No soap in the kitchen. I’ve stayed in several Towne Suites so I am aware of what is normally stocked. The kitchen should have it’s own garbage can, I had to put my food garbage in a small office can which doesn’t seem practical or convenient. There was a light over the desk that didn’t work. Not the desk lamp but a strip light under the shelving. I was disappointed when I went to check out, the elevators were not in order so when I went to try to find stairs, there was NO sign indicating where they were. That needs to be addressed in case of emergency. I had several bags so that definitely made it an awkward departure. Communication about that would have been important. The front desk clerk was friendly and made checkin easy :)

The room was fine, however the Expedia listing stated that the hotel provided shuttle service from the airport. They do NOT have shuttle service. I ended up paying $40 cab fare to get to the hotel. I would not have booked a room if I knew it would cost another $40 to stay here. It was too late for me to cancel the room for a refund. The desk clerk stated that they needed to update their Expedia listing.

I was charged a no show fee after I spoke with an expedia agent (15 minutes after I booked the reservation)to cancel my reservation. The agent told me he needed to speak with the supervisor to cancel my reservation and they would get back to me. I only cancelled my reservation because my power came back on. After I recieved the first email I called the hotel and Expedia. When I spoke with Shawn (a supervisor at the hotel) He explained to me that he couldn't refund my money because I paid through a 3rd party (expedia) and it was on them to refund my money. Now expedia is saying that after they spoke I did a no show to the hotel. I feel that both the hotel and expedia both lied to me and gave me the complete run around when they could of told me the truth when I tried to intially tried to cancel my reservation. Poor customer service on both ends...
