The cottage has a wonderful setting just outside the village of Potterne and is very quiet with lovely views across the surrounding countryside. The owners, Hazel and John, were very friendly and most attentive and helpful in providing advice on the various attractions of the region. The cottage was a little old fashioned and dark in its decoration, but very comfortable and clean and was well stocked with equipment that was in good condition. The second and third bedrooms were a little bit on the small side but since we were only a couple, this did not affect us unduly. The local pub was a disappointment but there were plenty of other nice places to eat out if you are prepared to drive outside Potterne. Since we had very good weather during our stay we opted to eat outside at home for a number of evenings. The location of the cottage proved to be a very good base for exploring the area and visiting many of the Wiltshire attractions including, Laycock Abbey, Salisbury Cathedral and town, Stonehenge, Avebury Manor and stone circle. We also greatly enjoyed the gardens at Stourhead and The Courts. Overall, we had a most enjoyable week in an area of England that we did not know particularly well, and probably will pay a return visit to the area in the future.
