Yellowbird, a Charming Property w/ Main House, Guest Cottage, Pool, In Town

Yellowbird is a beautiful mix of old and new. A listed, historic main house dating from the 1800s with a fully remodeled kitchen and amenities, and a more recently built two-story guest cottage with a refreshing plunge pool tucked between the houses. With beautiful indoor and outdoor living spaces, there are lots of cozy places to enjoy a cocktail, or read a book and relax. We enjoy sitting on the front porch swing to survey the local charm of the island.

Yellowbird is totally enclosed for privacy and security. The main house has two bedrooms - one with a queen bed, the other with two twin beds - and two bathrooms. Both bedrooms are tucked up under the eaves and have direct access to the rear verandah. The cottage includes three separate bedrooms each with queen beds and en-suite bathrooms. The two lower bedrooms in the guest cottage adjoin making a family-friendly suite. The upper bedroom has a harbour view. The property layout is ideal for two families traveling together or one big family.

Even with a few hiccups, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Yellowbird. Host was very accommodating and available! The property was a fantastic fit for our family of 10! Definitely pleased with our whole vacation!

We absolutely loved our stay at Yellowbird!! We were in Harbour Island for a family wedding and 10 of our family members stayed together in the house. There was plenty of room for everyone and we really enjoyed having the pool and outdoor space to hang out in. The bedrooms were all spacious and comfortable and we were extra grateful for the efficient a/c systems that kept our rooms and the house very cool and comfortable. The house is in a great location just up the street from the dock, a short walk from shops and restaurants, and a 10 minute walk to the beach. We did rent golf carts as well which was nice to have to get around, especially to and from the beach. We used the public beach access next to Coral Sands and were able to rent chairs and umbrellas for a very reasonable price. Our host was very nice and super easy to work with and we’d highly recommend Yellowbird!!

Yellowbird was Fantastic!

We had a wonderful stay at Yellowbird! Great location right in Dunmore Town where everything was a short golf cart ride or walk away. The house and cottage was very comfortable and we spent a ton of time in the pool and poolside cabana which was amazing. We were visiting to celebrate our son’s high school graduation and the house slept all of our party very comfortably. Our host was incredibly responsive and went out of her way to make us feel welcome and make sure we had everything we needed. Just a great experience - we’d definitely do it again!

Great location in center of town

Family gathering in Dunmore. We enjoyed staying in town, close to great restaurants and a quick golf cart ride to the beach. Beach is stunning and plenty of beach chairs available to rent. Our favorite part of the house was the outdoor pool area/bar. Beautiful place to hang out after a fun day exploring the island. Also, loved the bakery across the street, breakfast was fantastic. Overall perfect stay for our trip to HI.

great group vacation!

We loved staying at Yellowbird! This was our 7th year renting a home on the island but first time at Yellowbird and it was a success. The house is great for large groups that also like having their own spaces and the outdoor space is beautiful - great place to hang rain or shine! Not having any beach chairs was the only disappointment as we have have been provided them at other rental homes there in the past, but all the staff and owner were communicative and kind so we'd definitely recommend overall.

House is lovely, our experience was not as lovely

Yellowbird is charming and cute and the house fit our family perfectly as we celebrated my moms retirement but we didn't have the experience everyone in the past seems to have had. Lovely property and we were so excited for this place from all the hype I've heard and read but we won't be back or recommend. We arrived and the pool was empty and the water jugs they supply you with weren't filled and no water to be found (you cannot drink the tap water here). Arriving after a long flight and boat ride over with kids, all we wanted was some water and a pool but got neither. No one informed us on this and we had to reach out to get answers. Pretty disappointing as this was our first impression. The property didn't seem to be as taken care of as in past reviews (clogged bathroom drains for example) and we were without a pool until the 2nd day (the pool sold us on this house). Communication is key and would have made this situation much better if we had had that. There were not enough towels for us, especially beach towels so bring your own. There is a housekeeper, Kava, but we didn't see her everyday and felt like we were more of a nuisance if we asked for clean towels or had any other house questions. We will definitely be back to Harbour Island but will explore other house options!

Spring Break at Yellowbird

Overall pretty good experience at Yellowbird. The property is clean, spacious and the pool is a huge asset. This was our first trip to Harbor Island but next time we wouldn't stay in town as the location wasn't as relaxing as we hoped. Pros: House is centrally located in town; well-stocked kitchen; house is spacious and clean; pool area is beautiful; Kava takes care of issues with the home when you're visiting (AC broke and she had it fixed immediately without us even asking) Cons: Being in town on a cut-through street, it's really noisy (people, cars/golf carts, roosters, dogs, cats - all day and night) especially in the main house bedrooms. You can't drink the water and the house only provides 2 large jugs for the week; given the cost of the house and amount of people using it, water jugs should just be replenished for free (9 people went through the "free" water in 2.5 days and never were able to get more so we had to buy gallons from the grocery store to refill the jugs on our own); despite locking the gates from the inside (per Kava), people taking care of the house/garden/pool/trash were able to access the property so we didn't feel very safe; keys did not work to the back house so it could only be locked from the inside while inside, also why we didn't feel super safe (and yes, we told Kava this and asked multiple times for new keys); pool has sharp edges inside so we got a few nasty cuts

Beautiful cottage compound. Wonderful location.

We really loved how Yellowbird felt like a family’s real vacation home. It was a wonderful spot to vacation in Harbour Island. Yellowbird is steps from the best restaurants (the Landings, Rockhouse, smoothies at the Sweet Spot, etc) and across the way from a really great bakery. You can easily walk/golf cart to the pink sands beach which is absolutely the prettiest beach imaginable. The outdoor areas of the cottage are very special - there’s a super cute covered sitting area and pool and a large covered outdoor dining table. We loved having drinks outside every afternoon. The cottages are truly separate so this would be perfect for two families. Our boat was delayed by the bad weather and the extra bedrooms were really helpful. Abigail was very responsive to questions and left a lot of info + plentiful beach towels. Kitchen is really well provisioned and you are easily walkable to two grocery stores though we barely cooked. Highly recommend this sweet spot. It’s really perfect if you have part of your group moored at Valentines.

A perfect getaway

Yellowbird was an absolutely amazing home to stay during our stay in Harbour Island. It was even bigger and more beautiful than we expected, perfect location and both Abigail and Kava were incredibly communicative throughout our stay. Beautiful!

The location was perfect!! A short golf cart ride to everything! The pool was refreshing and there was plenty of room for everyone! Our only complaint was we were required to pay the cleaners $30 each guest and we were unaware of this charge.

The Perfect Stay

What an absolute delight Yellowbird, Harbour Island and everything this precious home as to offer! Kava was a true gem and like a fairy picking up after us, surprising us with clean laundry, and making sure we were completely tended to. Our family of 6 fit perfectly (children ages 1-9) and we had tons of room to spare. The pool was a necessary amenity and we enjoyed it daily. There is no question that we will be back and recommend to everyone we know! Thank you Yellowbird for priceless memories and inviting us into your beautiful home!

Absolutely Fantastic!

Yellowbird helped create a very special family holiday filled with incredible memories. The property was exactly as advertised and more. Spacious with so many little extras. The main house was perfect for entertaining - relaxed and well appointed. The master bedroom was lovely and the upstairs deck overlooking the pool was a relaxing “secret spot”. The cottage has three well appointed bedrooms each with its own ensuite. The pool and cabana area were absolutely perfect for family get togethers. Kava was 10/10 and helped make our family getaway extra special. She arranged a chef one evening for a birthday celebration and made sure our rented playpen was delivered and our golf carts were picked up. Attention to detail beyond. When a piece of jewelry was left behind she even made sure it was delivered to the airport for us before we flew out. Thank you Kava! The location of yellowbird is perfect - a few steps from the waterfront and right in the heart of Dunmore town. Abilgaile, the property manager answered all of our questions in advance of our arrival and provided nice detail on restaurants and island highlights. We recommend Majors for golf cart rentals, TeeJays for umbrella and chair rentals and oh yes, don’t forget the bakery twenty feet from the front door of yellowbird every morning for coffee and treats galore. The general store is two doors down and filled with absolutely everything. So many lovely restaurants to mention! Yellowbird 10/10.

Perfect Harbour Island Stay!

The Yellowbird is everything we could have asked for in a rental home for our size family (6 adults, 2 small children). This is our second timing staying at this property and have been equally impressed with both stays. The location is perfect! We look forward to returning to the Yellowbird in the future.
