Very Peaceful and Relaxing Stay in a Beautiful Setting
Tucked away along a stream in the middle of heaven, the Barnhouse was the perfect setting for our family. The kids loved to fish and feed the goats and chickens. We loved sitting around the fire each night, and venture into Hendersonville and Flat Rock for some great shopping and dining. Top it off with a boat tour on Lake Lure, we couldn't have had a better time. We will definitely consider the Barnhouse when we visit this area in the future.
This place is a hidden gem. It’s so clean and beautifully decorated. Katrina and Mark go above and beyond to make you feel welcome! Thanks for everything and can’t wait to return.
We really enjoyed our stay. There was plenty of room for everyone to hang out outside on the porch or around the firepit. The porch had a beautiful view of the creek and it was great place to talk or read a book. We loved all the extras that were provided: items to make smores, towels for the hot tub, Netflix and DVDs. It was a very peaceful and relaxing place for a couples' weekend getaway!
We came here to celebrate a 50th wedding anniversary so guests ranged from age 6 to early 70s and there was something for everyone. The kids loved playing in the creek, greeting the goats and looking for bugs. The property is close to great hiking and the downtown Asheville area. We enjoyed several trails in the Pisgah
There were seven adults under one roof but it felt very spacious. Our experience working with Katrina and Mark was wonderful. The checkin was simple with great instructions upon arrival. They were super accommodating for us when we needed the water heater adjusted and they washed a load of clothes for us overnight for a minimal charge. There were tons of fun activities at the barn to keep everyone busy while we were on site. The river, chickens, beautiful flowers, outdoor games, indoor games, WiFi and extras such as fresh fruit, coffee and creamer and a few other food/drink items were a nice touch. We wished we could have stayed a few more days to try out the fire pit and explore the river more.
Oh my stars, where to begin? Remodeled barn that is every bit as twee as you think it is, in all the best ways. So many sweet touches - from the s’mores welcome kit to the abundant spice cabinet, stock of games in and out, excellent water pressure, and luxurious comforters that just seemed to hug you to sleep at night.
Some things to be aware of: it’s tucked off the road a teeny bit and the small wooden bridges are a little off putting to a city slicker 😉 Look for the red house shaped mailbox and keep going left.
Very comfortably slept our party of 4 middle aged women with two fulls up and two queens down. Did not investigate sofa bed options - a slight stretch for our group, but maybe not for the younger travelers. Group seating inside for meals is a bit of a challenge, but we made it work. Ran into Mark and his sister and brother in law, very very open to feedback and just sweet as pie.
Flat Rock may be the name of the town but the terrain is not - the property is a mostly gentle slope, but something to prepare for if you are balance challenged as I am.
Goats are very friendly and super hungry.
All in all, it was delightful and our spirits are restored
Our group of seven wanted something different than the ordinary cabin. A rustic feel on the outside yet all modern amenities on the inside. Comes fully stocked which was a welcoming surprise. Feeding the goats and watching the chickens and ducks waddle around was so much fun. Making s'mores over the fire outside was wonderful! It felt like we were out far in the woods yet only minutes from town. Chimney Rock and Lake Lure were very close. The hosts were very responsive whenever we had a question. Would definitely stay again!
We enjoyed our stay so much. it was a great opportunity to spend time with our adult children and relax. We spent lots of time on the porch in the rocking chairs and time in the river stacking rocks and even had a duck race! Hendersonville and Asheville were close and we enjoyed time in both places. We would definitely recommend this property!!
This is a great place if you need a weekend away from the city. It is in the mountains and they have beautiful piece of property. We sat and relaxed on the porch overlooking the river listening to it trickle by and it was very renewing. Everything is as advertised, and it is very clean and provided everything we needed. The goats are very enthusiastic about getting their treats so when they hear you coming they start talking to you so that was funny. All of us agreed that if we are ever in the area again and the property is available we would definitely stay again! The only very minor down side is the internet is on the slower side. We were not concerned about it though.
Great property for a relaxing getaway. The sound of the river is incredible and we all had a blast fishing for trout. The place was clean and comfortable and easily accommodated our group of 6 adults and 2 children. Mark and Katrina were great and we look forward to returning in the future. Highly recommend!
This was a special trip, and a perfect fall getaway. We were a group of 4 adults , 3 kids, and 2 toddlers. The kids really enjoyed the goats and the property. It was perfect for s'mores and pumpkin carving and running around. Though I will note, not the easiest place with toddlers as the inside stairs were narrow and hard to block off as they lead right into the kitchen. One of the adults (unfortunately) had to do some work while we were there and the internet was slow for doing that. Hopefully others don't need the internet in the capacity we did! But overall a great trip! The hosts were very responsive and the place is beautiful!
We had an amazing few nights in this lovely little location. We loved hearing the sound of the creek going over the rocks, and the the beautiful landscaping. Mark and Katrina were great hosts. Our children loved the animals and playing in the little river. We also really enjoyed all the activities in Flat Rock and Hendersonville. It was the perfect place for a little break to connect with our kids.
family trip with 3 adults and 3 kids - kids loved waking up to chickens and ducks walking around . House is very comfortable and clean , we stayed mostly out on porch . Very responsive hosts . The stream is a great asset as its right on property .
We traveled to NC to meet up with friends from VA. The house was easy to find with the instructions provided. As soon as we arrived I knew we would come back. It’s so much sweeter than in the pictures. My kids had the best time ever. We played for hours in the creek, collected chicken and duck eggs in the morning, played with the sweetest goats I have ever met and just spend our entire time outside. I was surprised that we didn’t need to worry about mosquitos there (we’re from Atlanta where you just look outside and get bitten up, I didn’t get one bite while there!). We saw quite a few snakes in the creek and I was glad that our friends where really
Good at spotting them. But none of the snakes ever bothered us, they usually left when they heard our kids coming and splashing but if I was by myself I might have been worried about it. We are already planning our return trip to this little slice of heaven!
Staying at the barn in Flat Rock was a delight. Perched on the Hungry River, the sounds of the water mingled with the calls from the goats was delightful. We enjoyed giving treats to the goats, petting the kitties and spending time with the chickens. The decor of the house was right out of Pinterest and the beds/bedding was comfortable and clean. The kitchen had everything we needed and we utilized the streaming WiFi with Netflix. We didn’t get a chance to use the hot tub kept at a relaxing 104 degrees! Being an old barn, we were pleasantly surprised about the insulation that kept the interior quite comfortable despite being June/July. Lastly, the grounds were covered with various wildflowers and well placed yard art. So quaint and relaxing - we hope we can visit again. Thanks to Katrina and Mark, truly Premier Hosts.
This place was perfect. Dressed out to the hilt with farm charm. Th sound of Hungry River was so relaxing-no valium needed. Everything is so thoughtfully prepared. Nothing has been left out, including friendly farm animals, fresh eggs every morning. We will definitely be back.
We loved everything about the property and can’t wait to return. Exploring the river, playing with and feeding the goats, discovering the two groundhogs, seeing the lightning bugs come out at night, staring at the stars and, of course, enjoying the s’mores! Was great having the solitude but great knowing we could be in downtown Hendersonville or quaint Flat Rock in 20 minutes.
Beautiful property, check in was an ease. They had a little smores kit ready for us when we arrived which was amazing because of my son. Nice and quiet, sounds of the creek running was great at night when relaxing. The host were very friendly and helpful. Me and my family will definitely come back and stay, couldnt of found a better place.
The entire property is magnificently beautiful and peaceful. The barn house was very inviting and warm with a fully stocked kitchen, great water pressure, board games and was exceptionally clean. If you forgot something, don’t worry - Mark and Katrina got you covered with a well stocked trunk of miscellaneous toiletries! All of the mattresses and bedding were extremely comfortable as well.
Being able to walk out the back door to go fishing in the creek for crawfish and rainbow trout and also going to play with the goats (especially Maverick) or the chickens was the highlight of our families trip. We enjoyed the fire pit every single night we were there and were even provided with a complimentary s’mores kit.
We booked another trip before our trip even ended! We cannot wait to visit during the summer to see what else this fantastic property has to offer and explore the river! You could not ask for better hosts!
