A plane trip can be easy if you bring the right things. Firstly, you'll need basic toiletry items, such as a toothbrush and lip balm, a spare pair of socks and a few magazines. Secondly, leave space in your hand luggage for your electronic devices, chargers, your medications and perhaps a neck pillow too. Lastly, don't forget to take your passport, travel docs and some cash.
Do not pack the following items in your hand luggage:
While the list of prohibited items differs between air carriers, the general rule to follow is avoid carrying anything sharp, flammable or explosive. This includes screwdrivers, blades, fireworks and fuel. Sports equipment like baseball bats, and items that could harm passengers, such as firearms and swords, are also banned from the cabin.
What to wear on a flight:
Comfort should be your main concern when deciding what to wear on board. Loose clothing is a wise choice, as are flat, closed-toe shoes.
Deep vein thrombosis (DVT) can pose a risk on long-distance flights. It results from blood clots forming due to poor circulation and inactivity, so do some gentle leg and foot exercises in your seat and consider wearing compression socks.
Security personnel first need to make sure that you have a valid ID and matching boarding pass before you can proceed any further. Have them close by, ready for inspection.
Time to strip down. Well kind of. Your belt, coat, keys and other contents of your pockets, like your earphones, will need to go on a tray through the X-ray machine. Make your life easier by removing them before your turn arrives.
For just a few minutes, you'll have to unplug from technology. Your laptop, phone and any other electronic devices must also be sent through the scanner.
Travelling with your favourite perfume or cologne? As long as the volume is no larger than 3.4 ounces (100 millilitres) and it's stored in a zip-close bag, you're allowed to bring it with you in your carry-on bag.
There's a chance you'll need to remove your shoes to be X-rayed, so wearing slip-on shoes is always a clever idea.
Sharp items are prohibited in the cabin. They'll be confiscated at security, so pack them safely away in your checked suitcase.
