Wherever you're coming from, flying can be a pleasant experience if you've prepared well enough. We've compiled a list of handy tips that will help get your Grampians vacation started on the right foot. What to pack in your hand luggage:
- Air travel can be a great experience if you pack the right stuff. Firstly, you'll need basic toiletries, such as deodorant and a toothbrush, a fresh change of clothes and a few magazines. Next, leave space in your hand luggage for your laptop, a charger, any medications and perhaps a blow-up neck pillow as well. Lastly, and most importantly, be sure to take your passport, travel docs and some cash.
Do not pack the following items in your hand luggage:
- While the list of restricted items differs between air carriers, the general guide to follow is nothing sharp, flammable or explosive. This includes screwdrivers, blades, spray paint and fireworks. Sporting equipment like baseball bats, and objects that could injure passengers, such as pepper spray and firearms, are also banned from the cabin.
What to wear on a flight:
- Your number one priority is to be as comfortable as you can. Don layers of natural-fiber clothing and remember to pack a sweater in case it gets cool. Pick a pair of flat, well-fitting shoes as it's possible that your feet and ankles will swell during the journey. Leave the stilettos and hiking boots in your checked baggage.
- Caused by sustained periods of immobility, DVT (deep vein thrombosis) is a blood clotting condition that can affect some passengers on long-haul flights. The great news is there are numerous ways to significantly reduce your risk of developing it. Drink plenty of water, get up and walk around the cabin as much as you can and wear compression socks to help improve your circulation.
