- Flying can be a great experience if you pack the right gear. First of all you'll need basic toiletry items, such as a toothbrush and hairbrush, a fresh set of clothes and a magazine or two. Next, leave space in your carry-on bag for your phone and charger, any daily medications and maybe a cosy neck pillow too. Lastly, and most importantly, don't forget to take your passport, travel docs and some cash.
Do not pack the following items in your hand luggage:
- Put all your full-sized bottles of shampoo and hairspray in your checked luggage. Any gels or liquids in your carry-on suitcase larger than 3.4 ounces (100 millilitres) won't be allowed on. Pointed or sharp objects, like your beloved Swiss Army knife, and products which are explosive or flammable, such as aerosol cans, spray paint and gasoline, are also prohibited.
What to wear on a flight:
- Your main priority is to be as comfortable as you can. Pick slip-on footwear, dress in loose, natural-fibre clothing and remember to bring a pullover in case it gets chilly in the cabin.
- Deep vein thrombosis (DVT), a blood clotting condition caused by lengthy periods of inactivity, can be a risk on long-haul flights. Try to walk around the cabin or do some gentle exercises in your seat to promote better circulation.
