• A plane trip can be easy if you've got all the right gear. • You'll want to choose comfort over style. Prepare for temperature changes in the cabin by layering up, and opt for flat, closed-toe shoes like sneakers.
• Deep vein thrombosis (DVT), a blood clotting condition caused by lengthy periods of inactivity, can be a risk on long-haul flights. Try to walk around the cabin or do some gentle exercises in your seat to improve your circulation.

• Airport security personnel first need to know that you have a valid ID and matching travel documents before anything else. Keep them close by.
• Time to strip down. Well sort of. Your coat, belt, keys and other contents of your pockets, like your earphones, will need to go on a tray through the X-ray machine. Make the whole process faster by removing them before your turn arrives.
• All your electronic gadgets, including your tablet and phone, are also required to be scanned separately.
• Any liquids or gels, such as shampoo or hairspray, that you want to bring on board must be no greater than 3.4 ounces (100 millilitres). They must also all fit inside a quart-size (one litre), zip-lock bag.
• There's a good chance you'll need to take your shoes off for scanning, so wearing lightweight sneakers is always a clever idea.
• Avoid taking prohibited items in your carry-on bag. If you have any sharp or pointed objects, pack them safely away in your checked luggage. They won't be allowed on board and will be confiscated.
