No matter where you’re coming from, flying can be a pleasurable experience if you’re well organized. We’ve made a list of essential travel tips that will help get your St. John vacation started on the right note. What to pack in your hand luggage:
- The secret to having a great flight experience is to plan ahead. First up, the essentials: passport, travel documents, bank cards and important medications. Next, take on board items that’ll help keep you entertained, like your laptop or a magazine. You’ll also want to bring your chargers, a neck pillow and a pair of earphones. Finally, don’t forget to pop in toiletry items like a toothbrush, cleansing wipes and a fresh change of clothes.
Do not pack the following items in your hand luggage:
- Pack all your full-sized bottles of shampoo and hair gel in your checked baggage. Any liquids or gels in your carry-on suitcase larger than 3.4 ounces (100 milliliters) won’t be allowed on. Pointed or sharp objects, like your trusty Swiss Army knife, and dangerous goods which are explosive or flammable, such as aerosol cans, spray paint and matches, are also prohibited.
What to wear on a flight:
- Your goal here is to feel as comfortable as you can. Layer up with loose, natural fibers and remember to pack a cardigan in case it gets cool. Go for a pair of well-fitting, flat shoes as it’s possible that your feet and ankles will swell during the flight. Leave the stilettos and heavy hiking boots in your luggage.
- It’s likely you’ve heard about DVT (deep vein thrombosis), a blood clot condition caused by long periods of sitting. There are plenty of ways to minimize your risk. Wear a good-quality pair of compression tights or socks, stay well hydrated and get your legs and feet moving. Do a lap or two of the cabin or perform exercises in your seat.
